Sourdough/Herman Bread
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup oil 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 cup starter 1 1/2 cups warm water 6 cups flour Mix the above ingredients together to form a thick dough. Place in a greased bowl, turn to coat the top. Cover lightly and let stand at room temperature over night. Next morning punch down and knead a bit. Divide into 3 sections. Knead each section on a floured surface 10 times.
Place into greased bread pans and brush with oil. Let it rise 4 to 5 hours or as needed. Cover the dough so it doesn't dry out.
Bake for 30 to 45 min at 350F.
When done remove to cooling rack and brush with butter. |
