Q&A - Storing Canning

Q. Any chance you could post where you STORE all your home canned goods?!?! - Rebecca
A. Right now I store most of my canning on shelves in the basement. They are very thick wooden shelves mounted on steel hooks/brackets. They look to be very old and I'm sure many other woman have used them also, this house is about 120 years old. But they are quickly filling up! I need dh to make more selves soon.
When we lived in other places that didn't have a cellar I had to be more creative for storage. Every nook in the cupboards was filled up with home canned goodies. You can also put the full jars back in the box it came in, then slid them under your beds. They are still pretty easy to get at and are out of the way. I also stacked them in closets/pantry about 3 boxes high. Just remember to label the box to lol don't ask me how many times I forgot that!
Basically any place that is dark and dry and doesn't freeze will work fine.

and, I store water in the empty jars between canning times. they take the same amount of space empty or full, and this way I feel like I have a small water supply in case of emergancy.
I know this has nothing to do with where to store the bottles, but, I thought it kind of applicable!

We store ours in our partial basement as well. Dh built shelves from old wood and it's cool enough down there that we also store our potatoes and onions as well.

I love the box idea. My food cupboard is all filled up. I have gone to storing some jars behind the woodstove...we won't use it for another month. I am goint to have to be real creative because I've got a bunch of canning for this weekend, probably the last of it, but I do need space! Christine, babysteps
