The Seed of Discontent

The Seed of Discontent is not new- it's been around since the Garden of Eden.  It must be sown in hard soil and kept cold in order to germinate.  Once it sprouts, it must be watered daily with Selfishness and fertilized often with large amounts of Self Pity.  Discontent is sensitive to The Light, so it is important to keep it in partial to complete darkness at all times.

As it grows, Discontent has a tendency to spread and will eventually choke out all other growth.  When properly cared for, Discontent is covered with thorns, and its fruit is plentiful but very bitter.  Before long, you are left with a noxious weed that is impossible to control.  You could try pruning it back every once in awhile with Apologies and Good Intentions, but the only thing that really works to wipe out Discontent completely is Repentance applied at the roots and full exposure to the Son.  This will cause it to wither and die.  Then the soil must be replenished with Grace and Mercy which can only be applied by the Master Gardener Himself.  Then you must guard your soil daily, watching carefully for any signs of Discontent that may try to crop back up and start the vicious cycle all over again.

You may wonder how I know so much about Discontent.  Well, I used to sow it all the time.  As a matter of fact, it got to where I didn't even have to sow it anymore, I'd just let it go to seed.  Before long, Discontent was the only thing that was able to grow in my soil.  It became so well established in my garden that I didn't really even have to give it much attention for it to thrive.

Then one day I decided that I wanted to grow a little Love and Happiness, but guess what?  I couldn't do it!  No matter how hard I tried, Love and Happiness were choked out by the Discontent.  I knew that the time had come to get rid of it once and for all, but I had no idea where to start.  So I did what anyone would do- I got myself a Good Book and began to read it.

So that's how I learned how to deal with Discontent.  Perhaps you have it growing in your garden as well.  Maybe you should take a good look today and see if it's time to do a little weeding :)

Love this Leah

Leah,
What a beautiful post and oh so true.
I've got such a peace about being content with our life...taken me a while to get here, but now I am.
Contentment is one of the hallmarks of a simple life. True wealth comes not from having more but in wanting less!!
The one thing I live by now is:
Contentment cannot be found without knowing the Shepherd. Jesus Christ is the door to contentment.
I love this subject...thanks for posting about it.
Love ya friend,
Cathy

Thank you...
