Get a Clue

This morning Kevin and I played the game "Clue" together. Do you remember that game? In the beginning of the game, 3 cards are hidden in a secret envelope that gives a weapon, a room and a character that committed a murder. The object is to figure out what is in the secret envelope by taking guesses on who did it in what room with which weapon. There are little figures for each person and miniature weapons that include a candlestick, a wrench, a gun, a rope and a knife. Kevin loves playing with this game, but it's a little violent for a 4 year old, so here is our version:
~
Me: Ok, Kevin, it's your turn.
~
Kevin: Ok. I think Mr. Green should go in the kitchen with a wrench so he can fix the sink. Your turn mommy.
~
Me: Hmmm. Alright, I say Ms. Peacock should go in the library with a candlestick so she can read a book.
~
Kevin: Why does she need a candle to read a book?
~
Me: Well, it's a very dark library.
~
Kevin: Oh, ok. I think Mr. Plum should go in the dining room with a knife so he can cut his meat up for dinner.
~
Me: Oooh, good one, Kev! Ok, I say Colonel Mustard goes into the Billiard Room with Mrs. White with the rope so they can play tug of war.
~
Kevin: No, mommy, the Billiard Room is for playing pool.
~
Me: Oh yeah. Well then they can play tug of war in the hall.
~
Kevin: Yeah! Now everybody has to go outside together with the gun so they can go hunting. And now the game is over because everyone is playing outside.
~
Me: Well alright, game over then.
~
I like our version much better than the original, don't you?

I love clue... we had Master Detective Clue when I was a kid - had 8 suspects, 8 weapons and 14 rooms - and special spaces where you could peek at an opponants cards!
my husband has a clue-type game about missing jewlery. it is called "Sleuth" anyway, it has the same kind of deductive reasoning skills needed, but not violent
