Another Day of Horse lessons
Thank Goodness it wasn't too cold outside today, we were at the ranch again this Saturday for six hours. I am glad to see that my children are being used to help the younger newer children but ohhh it makes for a long day. There really is no way I can drop them off and come back to the house or go anywhere else really because of the location of the ranch, it's really out there. Sooooo I sit, chat with some of the parents, collect money and serve lunch and chat some more and clean up. It really isn't all that bad because I know we are working to raise money for the 4H Equine team so I hang in there.
Well for some reason today I was just fridgid by noon time and had three hours to go. I had my wonderful caring hubby warm up the car so I can sit in it for a few minutes and thaw out, oh did that feel good.
When we finally left and came on home, the girls and Brian (another riding friend) worked on breaking in their lil filly and THAT is when the fun started. I couldn't help but watch them a bit through the kitchen window. It was so cute to see them introduce the saddle to her and lead her in circles. The real fun began when Brian tried to ride her. Bless his heart he got thrown and bucked and I know he is going to be sore tomorrow. Mariah got on to take her turn riding and Dakota was just as gentle as can be. Oops seems she doesn't like something about her other owner. (more work to be done) It is great to see the kids putting what they have learned in lessons to use here at the house. I am excited to see how Dakota turns out.
*About Dakota ~ she is going into 4 years old as far as we can tell and has been stall kept for at least half of her life and was never loved on, touched, or trained. Her last owner abused her each time she went to feed her (which from what we can gather, wasn't very often). So Brian was asked to do something with her and to come and feed her daily. Well he didn't like the condition he kept finding her in so he and Mariah approached the owner and made a deal with her that they would build her a one acre fence for her other filly if she would allow them to have Dakota. This lady just couldn't handle the horses she had. (three in all with more on the way) Well the lady agreed and now they have a PROJECT horse.
I have some scrapbooking to do and I am waiting for the battery for the digital camera to recharge so I can download the pictures of 'Our first training session' so stop back by later on, or sometime tomorrow and check out the pictures.
Have a wonderful evening,
* Share a Blessing!

We have a 'project' horse here ourselves. About the same age, green as the grass and onery to boot. We have made very little progress with her in the past year, truth be told. She is finally beginning to respond to our eldest daughter, but the rest of us she couldn't care much for at all. Never had a saddle on her for more than a short time....
I wonder why we have her most days....
I can't wait to follow your progress.
