Monday Meanderings
It's time to roll out the ribbon
and get busy on those gifts of love. I am trying something new this year as it has been impressed on my heart to share the love of Jesus this holiday season and not so much worry about the hussle and bussle the world takes part in. I want to impress on my children the importance of the season not the importance of getting new toys.
I have decided that the children and I will make up some goodie baskets filled with homemade cookies, friendship bread, a handmade ornament and a card filled with love, then we are going to bring them to chosen families around our neighborhood. We have 'family' that lives near-by that we really don't see a lot of (the were set in their ways before we came to town) and I would like to change that. I want my children to grow up knowing their kin, so we will be making a basket for them as well. My children are only 24, 23, 16, 14, and 10. All of their Grandparents have passed away and we live 1200 miles from their aunts and uncles but they do have three cousins here and a great aunt who is 90 years old and I want them to get to know them well. I don't know why we don't get together with this part of our family other then they all have busy lives and well, Aunt J, she is always home but we never made an effort to really spend time with her. Well all of that is going to change. If she will have us., we are going to visit no less than once a week. It is my husbands side of the family and I don't know them well either but I want to get to know them, I want to share with them all the fun we have here, I want the children to have family to share life with. Soooo. .... we are going to start by making a lap book of our ADVENT journey. We will start by making a wreath and gathering the candles for the event.
We will take pictures, write out how it came to be and that will be the beginning of our lap book. As we continue we will take pictures of all that we do and add them to the lap book as well. Then we will take the lap book to Aunt J's and share it with her.
We are also going to start making SALT DOUGH ornaments for our tree. This year we are doing a Cowboy/Cowgirl theme. I think we will make the ornaments for the baskets at the same time. I am really looking forward to decorating this year. I am not going to bother putting lights outside this year as they always blow off in a day or two. This year I am just going to get a lite up wreath for each window of the house (I think we are going to make our own wreaths to save money) and then add a single candle in each window as well. That will be our 'light' to shine.
Then on Dec 2nd we are going to join in on the 'hanging of the greens' and put up our tree. On Dec 4th we will string the lights as this is the first day of Hanukkah the festival of lights. On Dec 6th we will put all the ornaments on the tree and read about St Nicholas. It will be a fun time of learning here this next month.
Be sure to stop by often and see what else we get ourselves into.
As for the MENU., well it consists of LEFT OVERS, Soup made from LEFT OVERS, and oh did I mention LEFT OVERS. ehehe
