I was going to tell you it's a cicada. We have them all over the place in Texas. You can hear them singing every single night in the fall and spring. If you have him around long enough, he might just hang on one of your screens or trees and shed his outer layer. Then you will have a cicada shaped brown shell left behind, legs and all.
