Well, I finally tried them

After hearing many good things about cloth pads, I decided to try them. I couldn't bear paying the amount for only a few pads that some companies wanted, so I made my own. I made two of each color here and have many more cut out ready to sew.

This is the pantyliner pad found at Adahy's Cloth Pad Patterns. They also have an 11 inch pad pattern and a circle pad pattern. For those of you who like the Luna Pads, she has a multi layer pad pattern as well.

The panty liner one was plenty big for me. The 11 inch one looks way to huge, but might work for an overnight pad. I may have to make the multi layer pad. I made mine without  the PUL, as I couldn't find it in my fabric store locally. I did find a few places online to buy it, but at nearly 9.00 a yard + shipping, I figured it was too much.

I just made mine with two layers of terry and two layers of flannel. I leaked through only once, but my periods tend to be very light and with using these, I swear it was even lighter than normal. So silly to be excited about using these, but they are so nice and soft and I will never go back to disposables. I am so tired of the rashes the chemicals that the  disposables gave me.

also trying THEM :-)

Well, your good blog may have done the trick to get me to use these as well. Don't know if I could ever get my girls to try them, but one step at a time! One of these days, I hope I get to the point of never needing them again myself, but so far the good Lord sees fit for me to KEEP GOING! ha! Thanks for the great instructions! Have a great weekend! -- Rita :-)

If these don't end up working for you long term you might want to try the Seventh Generation brand or the NatraCare brand of disposables, both sold at Whole Foods. I have a latex sensitivity and these do not contain latex or any of the harsh chemicals that "normal" brands contain. They are very stylish though for what they are being used for, LOL!!!!!!!!

You did a great job, I have switched to cloth pads and I cant begin to tell you the changes in my body , My cramps are not as bad, my flow is not as heavy it once was, and you get over that first intial "ick" I gotta clean that factor in a hurry. When my daughter begins her cycle( she is 12) I will make sure she will be using something like this, plus its a great way to use up them baby burp clothes too and recycle them in a way.

I have been using cloth for a couple of years now. I made mine using the pattern at the Hillbilly Houswife. I have material all set to make some for my 12 yo daughter. She is starting to show some signs of being close to needing them, so I best get busy.
Blessings,
Jennie
