Baby Chickies

Well, I ordered chicks this year because we have the space. A whole separate barn with one side for chickens and the other for rabbits. It has a huge chicken yard with wire on all sides and on top!! So I ordered 100 baby chicks! (What was I thinking?????????) Of course, we couldn't put the chicks in with the other chickens yet so they needed a brooder. And of course, we have no electricity at the barn so it needed to be close to the house. So now I have 3 big u-haul boxes duct taped together to stand straight up with hay and newspaper on bottom all on my front porch! We had to put up plastic all around the porch, put the homemade brooder right in front of the sliding glass door and run 2 heat lamps out there. And we can't close the front door because it gets too cold out there! So now I have 107 baby chicks that are 3 weeks old flapping and flying and stinking all over my porch. eeeewwwww! (even though i ordered 100, Cackle sent 110. i managed to kill 2 through stupidity and the chicks killed the third) I'm just counting down the days til I can put them in the barn and some in the freezer!! And the ones that don't lay well after that will end up in the freezer too!! They were sooooooo cute..........what happened??? |
