What a nice change from the wet and muddy days we've been having lately. It's sunny, rather dry, nice breeze airing out the house. It's beautiful outside for may in the South.
Hmmm...news....well, for 3 weeks now, I have been getting several gallons of milk at the store, only to have them turn on me by Monday. I'm talking buying on Friday and Monday they have a distinct vinegar kind of nasty flavor. Mind you, I am not much of a milk drinker at all, but once in a blue moon (maybe once every 3rd blue moon or so...) I want a tall glass of ice cold milk. The rest of the family, well, let's just say we either need a herd of milk goats or a couple of good Jerseys around here. They live and breath milk. They will go for a glass of milk before even looking at anything else to drink. We easily use 9 gallons a week or better just in drinking needs, not counting baking and such.
But lately, we seem plagued with rather nasty milk. First thought was get it from a different store. Did that. Next milk batches were the same. That leads me to the fridge. It would have to be my fridge. Chances of getting 12 gallons of bad milk from 3 different stores, over 3 weeks...just doesn't seem entirely likely, does it?
I would think, in a fridge, you would likely notice milk as the first thing to 'go' wouldn't you? I have 17 doz eggs in there right now and all have been fine. I have sour cream and several soft cheeses...all are fine as well. Lunch meats from the freezer, etc. Nothing else seems to be turning at all. My freezer is still doing it's thing. I am terrible...I am an avid ice-aholic. It is terrible for my teeth, horrible for my iron levels....I know. It's a total addiction on my part. Either way, my ice cubes are just fine. They aren't taking any longer to freeze than usual, they aren't somehow 'softer' than normal.
But my milk is turning in about 3 days so we have a concern around here.
Yes, my fridge is old. It's close to 13 -14 years old. I could stand to have a larger one, that's for sure, but it's never given us a minute of issue -- well, until maybe now, that is. Any thoughts on what might be happening here? Everything is still very cold, nothing else is showing any indication of losing it's chill at all or turning.
Long ago I faced a similar situation. It was indeed our temp in the fridge, and the neighbor who helped us said that I should check temps on top and bottom. It turned out door shelves weren't privy to the coldest need so we simply changed where we put the milk and it improved. He had us vacuum our coils and pull the fridge 5" from the wall. He also suggested that we freeze one gallon and then use it to help support the cold of down in the fridge. This got us down the road for many months. However, we did learn when we replaced to a 4 year old fridge, our energy bill did go down $28 a month.
Blessings to you,
Sweetie
That is a problem. I keep alot of milk in mine so I understand what a headache this could be. First I would check the temp. Put a thermometer in and just see whats going on with that. Check and make sure the traffic (opening and shutting the door frequently) is causing your temp to stay to high. Next I would look and see if anyone is putting hot items (like fresh brewed tea) in next to the milk. Been there done that. If all is good in those area's I would really start wondering about the product. My milk is fresh (IE goat) so I can't help there. I hope this helps. Blessings>faithfarm
I have the opposite problem........
I keep about 3 gallons on hand at all times, and mine, freezes!!
I have a whirlpool gold, imperial series, side by side (with and icemaker)
I do NOT advise you to get a whirlpool. That's a whole 'nother post! ha ha
If you have to replace, steer clear of the side by sides. They simply don't have any room. I have more room in my Igloo cooler than my freezer!!
Laura
~~I've heard that. I've only paid attention to the older models of side-by-sides and they freezer space is laughable, and the fridge room wasn't much better. I suppose if I had to have a sort of 'dream' model, it would be a freezer on the bottom style. Actually, I could go without a freezer on one at all...we have the largest chest freezer available, and an 17cube something upright. I'm freezer poor if you think about it, I guess.

No indulgences of self will can be trivial, no denial unprofitable; Heaven or Hell depends on this alone. A parent who studies to subdue it in his child works together with God in the renewing and saving of their soul. The parent who indulges it does the devil's work, makes religion impractical, salvation unattainable, and does all that in him lies to damn his child, soul and body, forever.

At Our School Desks
We are a Christian family desiring to raise our children with the primary focus of Training their Hearts!
I have no greater joy, than to hear my children walk in truth... III John 1:4
Train up the child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it... Proverbs 22:6
Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!... Deuteronomy 5:29
Our mission in life is not to go to some far-off foreign land, but to work at home and in our churches and home communities. Our goal should not be to leave behind riches and possessions, farms and homes for our children, but a priceless heritage they will cherish enough to work fervently to pass along to their children. It has been done for generations and with God's help it can still be done. In teaching our children, we are striving toward a deep understanding of who they are In Christ. I am . . . a child of God, a gift to my parents and my country. I'm a person of great value because God made me. I can . . . do all things through Christ who strengthens me. God has made me able to do everything required of me. I ought . . . to do my duty to obey God, to submit to my parents and everyone in authority over me, to be of service to others, and to keep myself healthy with proper food and rest so my body is ready to serve. I will . . . resolve to keep a watch over my thoughts and choose what's right even if it's not what I want.
