Freezer. If water spills on a batch of photographs, they will stick together. If you pull them apart, your pictures will be ruined. Put the photos in the freezer instead for about 20 minutes. Then use a butter knife to gingerly separate the photos. If they don't come free, pop them back in the freezer for a few more minutes. This should work to separate unused stamps from envelopes, too.
