If the cold weather, and in some parts of the country, snow has put a damper on your gardening; why not grow some sprouts?
This is a simple project that will give you a quick supply of crunchy, healthy sprouts to put on your sandwiches or in salads.
Pinetree Garden Seeds has quite a variety of seeds for sprouting, and supplies like sprouting lids or trays to get you started.
If you are impatient as I tend to be, don't despair; you probably have supplies in your kitchen right now to get started!
Here's what you need:
1 quart canning jar
cheesecloth or other thin fabric
seeds- check the pantry for lentils, wheat, beans, etc.
Here's my basic sprouting how-to's:
place a handful of lentils (or whatever) in a clean quart jar and cover with cold water. Cover top of jar with cheesecloth, use a metal canning lid to hold cheesecloth on jar. Let sit overnight. Drain. Then, rinse with clean water twice a day until seeds sprout. Enjoy!
This website has much more detailed information on all aspects of seed sprouting.
Have fun!
Lentils are my favorite sprouts; which ones do you like?
Blessings,
