A tradition that should be revived is the making of meat broths. Made properly, meat broths from the bones of organic, grass fed animals are highly nutritious, containing minerals, electrolytes, and vitamins. Adding veggies boost flavor and vitamins as well.
A little acidic wine or good vinegar added during cooking helps to draw out calcium, magnesium, potassium and other minerals. Broth made with bones contains gelatin, which is an aid to digestion. ItÂ’s been used successfully in the treatment of colitis, CrohnÂ’s disease, hyperacidity, and other intestinal disorders.
Try making a good broth once a week. ItÂ’s handy to have on hand for cooking, and it canÂ’t be beat for nourishing warm-ups on chilly evenings or when someone has a cold or flu bug. ItÂ’s also a tasty, flavorful way to keep your loved ones healthy.
