That which one eats as the fruit of his own labor, is properly called food.
~from the book Garden Proverbs
In our day of processed, junky "fast food", and with all of the recent recalls on things, this quote really speaks to me.
Even the stray kitten who gratefully consumed my homemade whole wheat bread, wouldn't touch the storebought white bread I offered it yesterday! If a little kitty has enough sense not to eat it, shouldn't I??? Oh, by the way, the only reason the stuff was in our house was that we had guests last week who are not accustomed to whole foods; and I've found that some of these children won't eat even my wheat bread! Poor things don't know what they're missing.
Have a Blessed Weekend,
Catherine

Animals know. My dog won't eat some kinds of chips, like the ones with MSG. I don't blame her!

I am reading several books on food and social issues surrounding it right now. One of the ones I picked up is Harvest for Hope by Jane Goodall. In it there is a picture of a chimp holding two seemingly identical heads of lettuce. One of the lettuces is organic and one is not. It says when given a choice the chimp always instintively chooses the organic produce. Can you imagine if people had this second sense about what foods are wholesome and which are not? I am willing to say that if we did we would not eat 90% of the food in our supermarkets.
