I know it may be a little early for some of you in cooler climates, but how are those gardens growing? I know Grandma Rosie has started reaping the bounty of her gardens. Anyone else?
I got a very late start due to weird weather, such as snow on Easter (in central Texas), and then rain, rain, rain, and still more rain. I finally got the raised beds built, filled and planted; only to realize that the compost was not quite composted resulting in a Nitrogen deficiency in my tomatoes
. Fortunately, our own Anne at Backyard Treasures, recognized my problem and got me headed in the right direction.
After adding Garden PEP cottonseed meal and later, Ladybug brand liquid fertilizer, I finally have healthy looking tomato plants, and even quite a few unripe tomatoes. I can see that some bird netting is in order, because the Mockingbirds are watching those tomatoes almost as closely as I am
.
The Jalapenos are producing nicely, and I should have some ready for salsa in a day or two. The bush cucumbers are blooming, and I'm waiting expectantly for the first cucumber sandwich of the season. Yum!
The container grown herbs are growing quickly and I'm already snipping them to add to salads, sandwiches, tea, and other warm weather foods and drinks.
OK, that's an update on my garden. Next! Post an entry on your blog and then come leave us a comment so we can read all about your garden and harvests.
Blessings,
