When eBay prohibited the sale last year of Teachers Editions, they actually paved the way for another entity to come in and establish a homeschool auction site. In fact, when the news about eBay's ban on Teachers Editions became public, people immediately began contacting us, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine - wanting us to cover the story in print or to spearhead a grassroots effort through HomeschoolBlogger.com to appeal to eBay to reverse their decision. Many knew that TOS actually got its start as a newsletter for our eBay customers when we were selling homeschool curriculum there years ago and they also knew that we realized the importance of having a place for homeschoolers to buy and sell curriculum that way.
It was obvious that eBay's decision had already been made, so instead of spending a lot of effort trying to change their mind, we began to consider what other options were available to homeschoolers. At the time there weren't many (just a few smaller sites) and we began researching what it would take to create a homeschool auction site that could actually stand toe-to-toe with eBay. A place where homeschoolers could earn some extra money selling curriculum and household items. A place where homeschoolers could find both new and used curriculum at great prices. A place that would give others the opportunity to start a home business for their family like eBay did years ago.
So after some heavy thought and prayer we bought the domain www.HomeschoolBuy.com and a few variations. We found a homeschool dad and experienced webmaster to begin setting up the site. We did comparisons with other niche auction sites. And we hired an attorney to make sure that we had airtight legal agreements in place to protect ourselves, our buyers, and sellers. We talked about it on our HomeschoolBlogger site and got feedback there. We hired a graphics designer to create some buttons and banners. And at the end of October 2006, HomeschoolBuy was officially launched.
Now that we've done the footwork and initial promotions and HomeschoolBuy is off to a good start, we're looking for someone to buy the site and grow it to its full potential. We have our hands full with the magazine, our speaking schedule, two busy blogging communities and a fast-growing online catalog. We're too busy!
What a wonderful opportunity for some other family to develop a home-based business. We can help. We want to see HomeschoolBuy FLY to success. And we believe that the right group of people can succeed; HSB can become a strong presence in the homeschooling market - a one billion dollar market by the way. The new owner will enjoy free consultation for one year (marketing) as well as thousands of dollars worth of free print and online advertising. TOS Magazine will back up this online auction community. You will not be alone.
Are you interested?
Contact us and we will give you all the details. We are standing by with a large package which can be emailed over to serious inquirers only. We want HomeschoolBuy to grow even larger than it is and as mentioned above will advertise and promote it for the new owners with over $12,000 worth of advertising in the magazine and on our websites. (full page ads for one year plus several online banners and email blasts)
The Spring/Summer curriculum buying season is here. Now is the time for someone to really take HomeschoolBuy to the next level. Homeschoolers are looking to sell their used curriculum to have money for next year's purchases. HomeschoolBuy is the perfect place for that. And don't stop there! HomeschoolBuy can be the premium place to go for podcasts and video demo's. Our webmaster has already created a number of videos and has plans for education "classes" should the new owner be interested. The sky really is the limit! And with all the advertising that will come with this new venture, this company is already one step ahead of the game. Already almost 1,000 members have registered.Have a look!
