Our Christmas Story
After many years of staying home
for Christmas, we decided to spend the holidays with our family in
Tennessee this year. Things just kind of fell in place for us since we
had friends who were willing to feed our animals for us. So we did all
of the loading up and headed off for a grand holiday road trip.
Our first stop was at my mom's house. She is quite the artist and has a
flair for decorating so the boys always enjoy seeing Gran's house all
fixed up for Christmas.
Sure beats our tree which never got past the white lights and a star on
top! We had a fun time giving Gran the gifts that we had brought and
the boys really loved their gifts as well. It was just so nice to enjoy
the time together. Later my niece and her boyfriend came by and played
a round of Trivial Pursuit 80's edition.
It was SO much fun, although it
wasn't all that easy either. The headlines category made me realize
just how little I paid attention to current events during the 80's. I
told them all that I was probably too busy studying! Of course I was
able to win the Music piece by correctly answering "Who did Rick
Springfield yearn for?" ... say it with me.... "Jessie's Girl!"
The next day we went to Tony's family's house to celebrate with them as
well! I've had a lot of fun making scrapbooks for Tony's Grandma and
it always makes me realize how few pictures we have of all of us
together. We usually get too busy talking to take pictures, but I
twisted arms and managed to get one this time!

I was
so happy that my niece and nephew liked their gifts. I had made both of
them fleece scarves and then got each of them books as well. Spy
activities for Sophie and a tractor book for Will.

And then Tony's niece Lesley wowed us all with her gift for our family - 20 Questions!
It is an amazing little game. One of those things that is so simple, it
just baffles you. You just think of something... anything... and the
game asks you 20 questions (hence the name) where you answer yes, no,
rarely, or sometimes and then it guesses what you are thinking. It is
freaky how it works! It guessed cable modem, Christmas tree ornament,
mirror, alpaca, eyeball, and on and on... We did stump it a few times,
but not very many at all. It was big fun!
We just had a wonderful time all around. Lots of food and fun. And the
animals all behaved themselves while we were away so that was nice too.
It's just so doggone hard to go away without the beasts, but it's worth
it to take a break and enjoy the holidays with family sometimes.

Just like Dolly Parton, you had a Smoky Mountain Christmas... :-)
As for "Trivial Pursuit 80's edition", my kids would yell to me: "No fair, you were alive back then!" LOL

Awwww Nancy, I'm so glad that you and your family got the chance to get away for the holiday. I know what you mean about the animals though. Even though we've never had farm animals, up until 18 months ago we always had Standard Poodles that we never left except for once in their entire lives. Then, as they aged and became infirmed, we just could never leave them because they were so much work.... work that not even our best friends would have wanted to tackle. So, that means that we (as a family) left them only once in almost 14 years!!! Yep, that's right... we never went anywhere as a family except once in 14 years.
It's a good thing we're homebodies anyhow. :-)
So, whenever I hear about someone getting the chance to get away as a family, when normally their home responsibilities keep them "on the farm", my heart leaps for joy. I'm happy for you and am also happy you had such a good time.
Blessings~ Andrea

Sounds like you had a great trip. I love Tennessee, it is so pretty there. I love Texas to, it is home, but ask me how I feel about it in the middle of next summer and I will not be so thrilled!
