Adding a Button to Your Sidebar
Posted in Tech Support
**First of all, you'll be editing your template, so click on the settings tab next to where it says New Entry. Then click on the template tab. Then you'll want to make a copy of your template if you haven't already. That way if you accidentally mess something up you can go in and paste your original code in there!
To make a copy of your template, just copy all of the code, then paste it into a Word document. Then save it with a name like blog template on your computer and you should be good to go.**
Once you've done that, you need to copy and paste the code for the button:
Most of the time it will look like:
Next you need to find where you want the button to go on your template. Usually that would be in your sidebar (whichever side yours is on).
Look for one of these....
< Begin Left Column >
< Beginning of right column >
Decide where you want the button in the sidebar.
Maybe right after your About Me? Maybe after your Links? Maybe after your Friends? It's just totally up to you!
We have a variety of templates, but you should see some things that look similar to these variables.
Just find the place in your template and paste the code into it.
Then you would click on Preview Changes at the bottom of the page.
If it looks good, you're done. Just click on Save Changes.
If it is too crowded, then insert < br > to add one line of space or < br >< br > to add 2 lines of space, before, after, or both, it's up to you to tailor the way you want things to look. < br > stands for break.
If the button is off-centered, then put < center > before and after the code.
*Note, remove the spaces before and after the words between the <> to make the code work. I just couldn't get it to display properly if I posted them without the spaces.*
Make sure that you always preview the page and make sure that it looks the way you want it to and once you are satisfied, click on Save Changes.
I hope this helps. Here are a few other pages if you still need more help!

I'm going to give this a try...just as soon as I get my pie crusts made(which may be just as much of a challenge for me)!

I'm so glad that you were able to figure things out with my instructions. I wasn't sure if they would make sense to anyone else or not.

Hey Kim,
There are other blog tips in the tech support category in the sidebar. Here's the entry on how to post pictures.

That should explain it pretty well, but if you still have problems don't hesitate to ask!

Now, how painless could that be! Thanks - now I have the Snowman on my sidebar. Have been wanting to update my blog, but just have not had the time to learn how. Have a camera now and want to add pictures soon.
So this was very helpful - would love to decorate for Christmas.
Thanks for all you do to help us.
