One of the fun things about having a farm is getting new animals. As a
kid I SO loved animals of all shapes and sizes, but being a kid that
lived in town, having a bunch of animals just wasn't going to happen. We
always had one dog and not matter what dog it was, I always loved that dog with my whole heart!
So
now that we're on our own farm, I absolutely LOVE being able to have a
bunch of animals. And God has certainly blessed us by filling up this
farm with free ones. Just last week some friends came over that are
moving and brought us their chickens and ducks. I've got lots of
pictures to share, but today I thought I'd share a video of the ducks.
They are two mallard drakes and are strictly ornamental, but
they are so fun to watch. They've had their wings clipped so they
can't fly away and they just waddle around the yard quacking.
Fortunately we have a small creek that runs around our house so they
had a great time in the water. They took to it like umm.... ducks to
water.

I love ducks, and they're so cute!!! How wonderful to have them! I can't wait to have land to have more animals!!! :o) About the wings being clipped, is that a good thing to do? Or is it just something that was done to them? I've never had ducks. I've had about every animal but ducks before :oD

I'm sure that there are varying opinions on whether clipping the wings is a good thing or not, but ours came to us that way so that decision was already made for us. The reason people do it is so that their ducks don't simply fly away. Of course that also prevents the ducks from being able to fly away from predators, but we keep them in a safe coop or chicken tractor unless we are watching over them. :o)
I found a neat website - www.liveducks.com that had lots of information about ducks if you're interested.

Oh I could just squeeze them their so cute.Haha I'm sure they'd run fast as lightening though.
I'd love to have some ducks. Down the road from us, they have two beautiful black swans. I've never seen black ones before. They are just gorgeous!
I always wondered how they stayed. I know chickens wings can be cut, but I forgot that you could do that with ducks and other birds.
The ducks are beautiful!
