Annette, her husband,
and their 10
kids live in the Allegheny Mountain Range of Northcentral Pennsylvania,
hence her username HighCountry12!
I found Annette's blog again this week when I saw the
photos from her
homestead. They live in a beautiful
area of Pennsylvania and she generously shares some tips about things to do
in her area and the things that she's trying her hands at: making candles,
soap,
and yogurt.
As she and her family strive to earn income from
their farm and to become more self-sufficient, they've gotten goats so she can
try her hand at making
cheese as well. Oh, and here's where someone made a suggestion on where
to buy lye for anyone else interested in soapmaking!
You'll enjoy visiting her blog for pictures of her flower
garden and their homestead. She's
also got some great recipes: venison
and wheat
bread, and a great idea for feeding
your chickens through winter. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to her blog and
really admire her family's commitment to research and try new things. The
learning curve can feel pretty steep sometimes as we're trying our hands at the
self-sufficient projects, but learning from others who share their journey does
so much to encourage the rest of us as well. Be sure to stop by Annette's blog
to tell her thanks for sharing their lives with us and visit their new online store
too!
For being our featured blogger this week, Annette will get
a copy of Herrick Kimball's book, The Deliberate
Agrarian. If you haven't already read it Annette, I think you'll
really like it. Be sure to email me with your address so we can get Herrick to
send it right out to ya!

Nov. 7, 2006 - wow! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you so much for selecting me as the featured blogger this week! I am both humbled and encouraged by this kind recognition. God truly has been very good to us-He has blessed us far beyond what we deserve. He is always faithful. I hope you will enjoy perusing my corner of the world for a few minutes and feel free to leave a comment and say "hi!" Homestead blogger has been a great outlet and place to make friends this year, and I have enjoyed getting to know many of you. I have also learned some new self sufficiency skills, how to live more simply, and yes, how to use the computer a little better.. Be sure to stop in and visit our family website! You can meet the whole family and our dairy goats...and buy some of my goat milk soap...
