As I was making preparations to start school this year, "Time is of the essence" kept popping into my noggin? Why? What's the significance? I didn't know.
So I began to pray on the word essence. There are different thoughts that come to mind when one thinks essence. First for me, is essential oil. Then there is perfume, the inward center of something (or someone), & a concentrated form of things. But there is more to the word than this. In this usage essence has a far more intense meaning.
Time is of the essence simply means time is absolutely critical. Thus the birth of multi tasking. Never let a moment pass without accomplishing something, or better yet, more than one thing. However, living simply, this is not a true statement. Time is still critical but in a more serene and thought provoking way. Taking time to relax, garden, drink a cup of tea, spend time in devotion, laughing with your kids for no specific purpose, enjoying your shower, basking in the sun just to appreciate the goodness of it; these are all critical uses of time. The essence of time to those geared towards living simply, is really living every moment.
How many times have you gotten in the car to go to the grocery and when you arrive, you do not even remember the trip there? Do you some times try to retell an event and forget which day it occurred? These are the results of allowing time to be consumed by productivity and not living. Take time to truly live each moment, whether it be in the bathroom, sweeping the floor, a romantic moment with the hubby, reading a story to the littletons for the 75th time, making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or whatever rote activities fill your day. Make a point to look at them from a living perspective, thus all moments are important moments.
These are my thoughts.
