Last week I discussed preparations for your Christmas letters and cards that take little bits of time now leaving much time open when Thanksgiving comes and goes and the Christmas Season is full steam ahead. This week I would like to share 2 plans that have been a GREAT benefit to me over the years. These plans are designed to help you get your house in organized shape in small bits prior to the busy season ahead. By following either plan, you will find your home will become an even more wonderful environment to live in. It may seem overly simple, but the schedules really touch areas that often get overlooked, and thus neglected.
The first plan is the Holiday Grand Plan, by Katie Leckey. This is the plan I use most years, because I like stretching the projects out over the longer period of time. For me, I find the extra time allows for rooms that are not covered on the plan. For example, having 4 children, doing the kids bedrooms all in one week, is more than I can handle. SO, I stretch it. If I finish early on a previous week, I simply keep pushing on to accomodate the extra time needed for those rooms. If I find I am running behind, then I take 1.5-2 weeks for those rooms. The plan is flexible for that because it covers more time. To quote from Katie's website, "It's a Grand Plan for Christmas organizing: an 18-week plan to clean and organize the entire home for the holiday season." If you are looking to declutter and reorganize your house, now is the time and this is the plan that will help you accomplish that, eliminating the overwhelming feeling that often comes with such a large goal. Check out Katie's website for all the details. The Holiday Grand Plan "begins" Aug 27, and is a prep week involving developing lists to help plan. From personal experience, this is one activity that is a great benefit to putting it all together and it doesn't take much time. If you decide to participate in this plan, please let me know.
Another great plan I have used when time and schedules are tight is the Christmas Countdown, by Cynthia Townley Ewer (the creator of www.organizedchristmas.com). This plan lasts 6 weeks and covers organizing, cleaning, and declutering your house room by room for the Holiday season. You will find it covers much more than that though: christmas cards, meals, gifts, parties, etc. It's all there, just in a shorter time frame.
I highly recommend these 2 sites and either plan to help you get focused and plan for the season. You see, planning for the season now will allow for you to enjoy a more meaningful, less stressful, Simple Christmas!
