Time-Saving Tip for the Week!
Posted in Time Saving Tips
This is probably going to sound TOO simple, but tackle small messes around the house while they are still small! It's so easy to look around a room with several things out of place and think, "I'll get to it later" only to turn around the next day to see that those small messes have somehow multiplied! Take just a few minutes several times daily - and get other family members to help! - to tidy up each room. I usually tidy up after each meal and my home is almost always ready for unannounced company!

Jul. 15, 2006 - Simple But Often Overlooked
Posted by oldpathsfamilyfarm
I love this reminder. It is the whole "broken window" effect. Police in urban neighborhoods often focus on getting the broken windows fixed on old buildings because it draws crime like flies. The pattern is that it starts with someone breaking more windows, then degenerates into worse crimes.
A few books and a lone sock laying around the family room draws more junk like flies, too. Our favorite technique is the "Everybody pick up and put away five things as fast as you can". We do this about ten times in any given day, and you know what...it really works. Without a lot of effort from any one person. I just love it when a plan comes together...
Great reminder!

Jul. 15, 2006 - Thanks for the tip

This is true with dishes too (my weakness). If I wash every dirty dish as soon as it hits the sink then it is not overwhelming. But too often I wait and then have too many to do. Thanks.
