This is my very first
post over here on The Front Porch. I want to post something
useful...something I feel I know enough about to write about! Having a
big family made for BIG laundry! And not budgeting much for
clothes, we always had to try to keep what we had in tip top
condition...or at least wearable!
I don’t suppose anyone really loves laundry...well we all love clean
laundry...that’s folded, hung and put away. But at the same time
we all know it has to be done. I don’t know if this is a
confession or not but I haven't done a lot of laundry in the past 20 or
so years. Zach was the “laundry person” when he was home.
Then Hannah took over about the time she was 10...now Rachel does most
of it, and Ben has been known to put on a load or two and fold as
well. And the man of the house has certainly done his share—and
more. Sometimes I miss the job. I do most of the linen washes,
simply because I “think” to do it. There isn't much I like more
than fresh linens on my bed. It is soothing to me to have fresh sheets,
smelling of French Lavender to lie down on. Maybe with an extra
spritz of French Lavender Linen/Room Spray…mmmmmm heavenly.
If you prefer to avoid harsh chemicals like chlorine bleach and most
commercial stain removers, stock your laundry room
with the following items to help you tackle most stain on washable
fabrics.
You might like to copy it, laminate and post it in your laundry area.
There is no guarantee on these suggestions of course. Some stains are
just too stubborn for any remedy. Some of the suggestions may be too
harsh, and if you are in doubt consult a professional cleaners. But if
the garment or linen is rendered useless due to the stain, you may have
nothing to lose by trying! And always consider testing a stain removal
method on an inconspicuous area before proceeding. Many times a stain
will take more than one remedy or more than one application. Rinse
well between methods!
Quote for today: Washing the laundry is what a woman does that nobody notices unless she hasn’t done it. ~Aunt Middle Mary
Susan is wife for 28+ years, Mom to 6, Grandma to 1.
She and her husband live in rural NW Louisiana with 3 of their 6
children where they raise children, vegetables, herbs and enjoy the
quiet country life at the end of a dirt road. Susan also (with
the help of her family) owns Dahlem's Soapworks fine handcrafted soaps & other needful things.
For these laundry tips :) ! Laundry is my greatest challenge- Mt. Washmore is a chore I'd love to delegate to another family member myself. Someday...someday :) . I love lavender linen water MMmmmmm! Your first post is great- glad your here :)
Blessings,
I'm probably one of the strange ones Susan, I love doing laundry. I love hanging it outside, especially when the wind is blowing and the clothes become so soft. I love the smell of towels and bedding hung outside to dry. Thanks for sharing.
