Omega 3 eggs
Editor's Note: Connie and I have been discussing Omega 3 and Vitamin E eggs. Now we want to hear what you think and know about this subject. If you can answer Connie's question, please leave a comment.
The other day, someone mentioned finding eggs with extra Omega 3 and Vitamin E. I did a little bit of research. You can purchase eggs with these included in the egg, but sometimes you have to pay up to $2.15 a dozen. Now, that, to me, is ridiculous, so I checked to see HOW you get Omega 3 and Vitamin E into these eggs.
The requirements seem to be 10% flax seed or canola oil in the feed and Vitamin E as a supplement. I’m sorry if this is incomplete – now I am looking for information on how much Vitamin E to give and how to give it. I certainly do NOT want to get those neat oil pills and pop one into each chicken every day. I cannot see them opening their little beaks and saying “ah!” Can you?
But this seems to be a simple, inexpensive way to boost your Omega 3 needs, at least, and enjoy your eggs, too. I don’t know if you could actually advertise them as such, but you COULD say … “This is how the big companies do it and this is how I do it.” You think? Won’t hurt to try!
