Thank goodness it warmed up today....it unthawed the lines out to the animal's water, so I did not have to haul buckets of water out to them today...you would not believe how much water a pig or a goat can drink...and they like warm water on a freezing day...they are very spoiled. Suzi Pig is gettng feeble, had to "Roll the pig" as I say, she gets down and cannot get up, she tries, but just manages to get her head up, so I have to lean down and pull her up...she squeals, I know it hurts her to get her up, then she licks my shoes. Bless her litte piggy heart ! I am surprised she is still alive, she is so old, and covered with deep wrinkles. I did not know if Ditzy and Cocoa, the old, old goats, would survive the deep cold weather. They are in an old greenhouse for a barn, I hauled hay out there, and even covered old Ditzy up with a comforter, she was chilled. She can hardly walk. I need to have the vet out and put them both down, but I just cannot do it....they have been such wonderful goats, lots of babies, lots of good milk and cheese, but I know the day will come when it has to be done. Cocoa can no longer walk on her front feet, she uses her elbows, but she seems to do fine otherwise. She is always so happy to see me, and so bright eyed. I will keep trying to keep them alive as long as I can, they gave me so much pleasure over all these years. I love goats. Cookie, the pygmy goat, continues to do well. She has such a long beard, she is too funny. She starts bawling the minute I step out of the truck, wanting me to go give her some extra feed, and the llama comes running as fast as he can up to his feed bucket hanging on the fence. Winter is hard on all us old people, including myself, my bones ache as the years of wear and tear begin to take their toll. I keep telling myself, in a few weeks, it will begin to get a little warmer, so guess what the forecast is the end of this week ? Yes, more cold, maybe snow...I am not a good weather person.
