My first entry here
Well, I still have the homeschool blog. But my dream is to homestead.
I'm going to talk to Robert (my wonderful DH) about container gardening for this spring soon. Especially since I should probably start some seeds really soon. Or like last week. Oh well, it will get done. I've been reading about container gardening on frugalliving.about.com and how to start seeds from vegetables from your grocery store. Beans and tomatoes, peppers and potatoes, etc.
My dream is to have chickens (for the purpose of eggs) and a cow for milk. DH has flat out refused a goat. But I haven't mentioned the chickens and cow idea Well see what he says.
We have a five year plan to buy a house. DH has all the details worked out. I'm just going with the flow. But if we bought our own house or maybe got a loan to build one I could o very well with a small garden if I figure out how to grow things now. Right? I don't think the chickens and cows are going to be welcome where ever DH wants to live. I want to live in the country and he's a city dwelling computer geek. As much as he wants me to be happy, I just don't think he'd be very happy in the country, away from the noise, pollution and lack of stars in the sky. lol I think I could live with just a small garden. I could still learn to can and pickle and stuff like that. That something I really want to learn this spring, summer and fall. I think it would just be great! Canning my own spaghetti sauce and tomatoes with chilies for our home made chili.
Okay, I've babbled and rambled on this whole page.
Blessings&Love

As the wife of a former city dwelling computer geek, I am here to give you hope :) I never thought we'd end up where we are, but here I am. He's still a computer geek, but now he's a computer geek with chickens and goats LOL It's so hard to be patient. I am finding that the hardest part about homesteading is the waiting part-waiting to move, waiting for animals, waiting for everything! I think that will be the subject of my next blog entry!!

I am thinking of container gardening or square foot gardening or something easy this year too. I am not sure with a small kid (11 months right now) I can get a real garden in this year. I also have a black thumb. But I WANT to do it! :)

2006-Mar-12 - IT husbands

Posted by MyThreeDaughters

My husband worked in the IT industry for about 10 years, and still does it in his current job. The only job we were able to get that had some permanency to it was in a remote area!

So here we are, away from the big shops etc. but still in town. We looked at a house out of town, but the agent found this one for us. We can walk to the bank etc.

Nice to meet you.
