The Mutt ... uh, Beagle
Posted on March 29, 2006 at 09:16

The mutt (haha!) is at the vet today. He is getting broken. He is seven months old and, since we do not want to breed him, it is time. My husband took him in and said he was loving visiting everyone … I hope he comes home with his sweet nature still in tack.
We are considering getting another dog so he will have a playmate. He is soooo full of energy! We have been told that Beagles are true pack animals and are much happier with a buddy. That they would wear each other out!! That would be a very good thing!
Today will be an odd day for the girls and I. Not hearing whining, yipping, barking, nose whistling and having to make multiple trips outside. Puppies are a lot of work!! lol

Grow your own avocados ... in the house!!
Posted on March 2, 2006 at 08:59
Jenig asked me if I can grow avocados here in Arizona. I have thought about trying but had “heard” that they do not do well here. I decided to do some research and see if it is possible. Unfortunately I heard right. Regular avocado trees do not grow well here … outside, that is! I found a website that sells dwarf avocado trees that can be grown inside as a houseplant ... just about anywhere. They will even fruit inside the house. Depending on your area they can be moved outside for part of the year. I have a lovely little bay window sitting area in my kitchen that is just screaming for it’s very own avocado tree!! I just need to ask my sweet husband. Here is the link:

132 days of no rain ... please pray
Posted on February 27, 2006 at 12:55
Rain, rain come and stay ... don't wait til another day!
Trixi commented on my need to soak my backyard as she is blessed with much … too much? :) … rain. So, I thought I would share my state’s current condition and ask for prayer. Arizona is on day 132 of no rain. The ground is hard and dry and I cannot only imagine the horrible fires that might be experienced this summer in the mountains. There seems to be fires every year but the very dry years are the worst.
The forecast for tomorrow includes a 40% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms. This is not the first time rain has been predicted. The other times it failed to actually rain … please pray that it actually does rain tomorrow. Please pray that the Lord would send a couple weeks of rain!

Monday ...
Posted on February 27, 2006 at 10:20
Mondays are catch up days at our house. Dishes, laundry, floors ... all need some work after a busy weekend.
At my house right now …
- Sierra is singing a song on the cd player
- My oldest is doing dishes
- My 7 year old is cleaning her room
- My 14 year old, and her 5 year old helper, are hanging/folding laundry and putting it away
- I am sitting in a wicker chair in the bay window writing this entry :)
- Elias, one of our cats, is on a wicker chair beside me sleeping ... he has become my shadow!
- There are four stuffed teddy bears and a baby doll in the wicker chair on my other side
- Amos, our 6 month old beagle, is zonked out in his crate ... he snores terribly!
- I think there is a load of laundry washing in the washer
- There is a candle burning on the counter
Things I need/want to do today …
- Spray off the front sidewalks and porch
- Soak the backyard
- Work on a meal menu for the next few weeks with my two oldest daughters
- Work with the girls in the backyard … spreading top soil and nutrients in the garden, planting our new roses and peppers
- Be careful not to do too much after having overdone it this weekend. I do not want to stir up my chronic health issues anymore than they already are!!

Kept Awake By Solar Lights
Posted on February 21, 2006 at 08:19
My sweet husband and I have been wanting to get some solar lights for our backyard for some time but they are sooo expensive. We found a good deal on a box of 15 for less than a hundred dollars at Costco, so we bought them. Some of the areas we were going to put them in are a little shady so we wanted to charge them in direct sunlight before putting them in the ground. My older girls opened up the box, peeled off all the solar covers, turned them on and placed them all on a table on the back patio. The tops were all facing out toward the sun and the light up parts towards the house. Did I mention that the table that the lights were on is right outside my bedroom? The lights charged well and all lit up after dark and stayed lit alllllll night. All 14 (one was already in the ground, it was our “test” light) … all fourteen of them stayed lit up alllllll night facing our bedroom window. I was amazed by how well the lights lit up our room! The window in our room is a very large with vertical blinds and it all just kind of glowed. I slept horrible, I need dark!! Lol

Herbs, the Puppy, Sickness and Fedex
Posted on January 20, 2006 at 05:32
Today ...
~ A couple of days ago I went through all the herbs and supplements in my kitchen cabinet and threw away all the reallllly old ones. Today I made a list of what I have. I plan to type it up and tape it inside the cabinet door ... it will be so nice when looking to see if I have what I need or if I need to put in on the shopping list.
~ Can you love your dog and really, really, really dislike him at the same time?! Our dog, actually a puppy as he is five months old, pooped on the back patio today and then trampled allllll over it. I have a terrible dislike of cleaning up animal poop ... at least cat and dog. Thankfully one of my daughters, who along with her sisters and my sweet husband talked me into getting a dog in the first place, volunteered to pick up and wipe up as much as possible ... all without complaint.
I spent the next couple hours spraying off just about everything outback anywhere near the patio. I know the poop was only in a small spot but I decided that since I was already spraying the ground, I might as well spray the back side of the house, the windows, the furniture and the littler ones play things. I power sprayed it all. Yay, no more poop! Or dust!
I had a part time companion while I was spraying ... a bee. I do not really like bees. Well, I like the job they do ... pollinating flowers and making honey ... but the stinging part really makes me a little jumpy. Now that I know we have killer bees here in Arizona, I am even more careful to not bother the bees or make them feel threatened or upset!
Soooooo ... what bothers the bee?! lol Does spraying the bee with water bother the bee? Can the bee tell that it is a human spraying it or does it just equate water coming in it’s direction as rain or the sprinklers? The bee kept visiting until the very end of my spraying, he was even there when I turned the water off making me walk very fast to get inside the house! What am I going to do when all three citrus trees are a bloom and the back yard is literally buzzing with bees?! I will set my mind to thinking of all the lovely fruit that will come from it. :)
~ My oldest daughter is still sick. No one else has gotten it. She said her stomach often feels like someone has sliced it on the inside with a knife. She is also still suffering with some nausea ... I am giving her ginger for that when she needs it. I wonder if this could be food poisoning? Still no fever and no more vomiting ... but very lethargic and unable to read. She loves to read so that is a big thing!
~ Oh Fedex came today. We love it when Fedex, UPS or any other delievery service comes to visit. This delivery was for my oldest, the sick one mentioned above. Two cds, one for math and one for science. She loves to learn so it was an exciting happening for her. :)

Thursday
Posted on January 19, 2006 at 10:36
Another beautiful day here in Arizona. :)
~ The sky is so blue out my window ... what a gorgeous color.
~ Cooler weather is back! The ceramic tile floors are so cold on bare feet and I am so thankful for a heater in the morning. :) We have not covered any plants the last few nights and I am afraid to go out and take a good look around ... I hope the damage, if there is any, is not too bad.
~ My oldest daughter is sick with something icky. She spent the day in bed yesterday. She threw up twice, had a headache and felt lousy ... no fever though. The other girls (that reminds me I need to write an “about me” post and tell about my family!!) had a slumber party in the livingroom last night so the one who shares a room with my oldest, will hopefully be spared getting sick. I am hoping that no one else gets sick ... please pray for us.
~ I have been working a little on my Herbal Notebook. I am designing a form that my girls can fill out as they study different herbs. I still need to come up with a list for studying different conditions. I think this will be a really fun project for us.
~ My download is done ... I have been typing while I wait ... so I need to post this so I am free to restart my computer! Have a wonderful blessed day everyone. :)
