Thursday, November 20, 2008 - small update again on my crafting..
I took some pictures of my progress on the mini wall hangings. I normally buy things like kits from Jack Dempsey to embroider. This is my first project that I planned out on my own. I took some things from different pictures I seen and tried to put them together. They are about half done, but are going rather quickly.
I signed up for a Christmas swap so need to start thinking of what to make. This is a late one and I only have till the first of Dec. to mail it so it needs to be quick and easy....
Thursday, November 20, 2008 - Some things around the house...
I was at a local store today and they had poinsettias on sale they were only $5 each and they were just gorgeous and huge. I brought 2 of them home with me...
Aren't these so pretty~
Here is a new candle and holder that I got~
This is what the fireplace mantle looks like all lit up and cozy looking~
Here are some more candles glowing~
This is one of my favorite candle holders~
Hope you enjoy the pictures...
I will be posting more updates on how my crafts are going in the next few days...

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - Have a stange Biblical question????????
I know this is probably an odd question but, I have for many years seen many Nativity scenes and they have 3 wise men with them. The way my Bible reads and not just one of them but 3 of them. The wise men where not at the manger, there is also no mention that I can find of there being a numbered amount of wise men, they arrived maybe up to a year later at the home of Mary and Joseph. I was reading last night Matthew chapter 2 and that is where it is talked about. It says (these are my words, not quoting here)that the wise men show up in Jerusalem to ask about the baby, where was he because they had seen the star. So if the star was there doesn't that mean that Jesus was already born?? They had already been traveling from the East to get to Jerusalem when they first saw the star. Then it says that Herod sends these wise men to Bethlehem to find the baby. When the wise men reach Bethlehem it states that they go into a house, not a manger and find a child, not an infant. Any way this is just something that has always bothered me. I would like to hear others opinions on this. NO I am not trying to debate this with anyone, I am just wondering if anyone else out there feels the same way as I do. I am trying to find a nice Nativity scene for our home but I don't want one with the wise men on it and so far I haven't found one that I like. I figure I guess I could get one that has them and just not use them. If you do put up a Nativity scene does it include the wise men??? I am just curious...
Sunday, November 16, 2008 - Another small Christmas craft update...
I have been working some on my mini wall hangings...
This is what I am doing, I am taking some pictures that I have found and used portions of them to make a pattern that I like.
Then I put that pattern onto a sheet of paper, I drew it in pencil first and then went over it with a dark sharpie pen. It looked like this~
Then I traced it onto a piece of dark blue fabric (it kind of has like a sparkle to it)~
Then I embroidered the picture onto the blue fabric~
I still have more to do but I am on my way, two done so far and only 5 more to go
On another subject Katie and Jennifer stopped by tonight, we had just put up our new reindeer and candy canes and so of course I had to take a few pictures...
Sunday, November 16, 2008 - my updated card system to homekeeping
If any of you have followed my blog for any time you would know that I had posted about a year ago my Home management binder. After using it for only a few months I realized it just didn't work for me. Since it's just me and Roger and I don't home school the HMB seemed to just be too much for me. I read the book Sidetracked home executives from pig pen ....(I can't remember the whole name of the book, sorry) written by two ladies that used a card system. When I first read about it, I found it kind of odd to write out just one item on a 3x5 card but I have to say it really does work. I made up my card system patterned after theirs and was using it every day. Then I started forgetting about it and wasn't using it anymore. I could tell, my house was disorganized and a mess. Roger works from home 3 days a week and on those days I would always hold my plans loosely (thanks for that idea Cheryl ) so that I wasn't spending my time doing housework while he was home so I could spend time with him. I then realized that I had my job to do too which is seeing to the ways of my household. If I would follow the card system that I had, on the days he were home I would have everything done and the house would be running more smoothly. I don't know how many times a week that I had no clue what was for dinner, so of course we ate out. I was not using my time wisely and I wasn't taken care of my home and family (Roger). Just because I don't have children at home doesn't mean that I don't have to take care of my home. So yesterday I got my ugly file box out (I want to get a much prettier one) and took everything out and went through it and changed some things around and put it all back together. Come Monday I plan on using it everyday!
Here are some pictures of what my system looks like~
Here is the ugly file box~
These are the number tabs, one number for everyday of the month~
These are the cards for Daily(purple) and Weekly(blue) chores~
These cards are for Monthly reminders (Pink)~(I didn't notice until I posted this picture that I forgot the t in Frontline, yes I have made a new card!)
These tabs are the Monthly tabs, where I store birthday/anniversary/important reminders etc..~
These colored tabs are for my address book~
This is all of it put together~
In the inside of the lid is my Basic Week plan, you will notice that I haveMonday as my grocery day, Tuesday listed as a heavy cleaning day and the rest are moderate cleaning, Friday is my free day, Saturday is light cleaning(if there is something that has to be done) and Sunday as the Lord's day~
Well there you have it, I know it's not too impressive but I am hoping that it works for me and my household.
I post sometimes on a forum that has a daily cleaning thread, but I don't always have the time to come to the computer and post regularly on that board. The ladies at that forum are just wonderful, but that is also where I met a person who I thought was my friend and basicaly she just used me and then tossed me to the side when she wanted to. So when I go to that board and I do post even if I say something to her she totally ignores me and that just is so mean . So please be careful out there when posting on boards/forums people aren't always who they say they are. They can post all they want about their wonderful Christian family and then treat people like dirt. I know that I have done things in my past that I shouldn't have done but I am not too proud to stand up and say yes I did this will you please forgive me.
I pray that everyone out there has a very blessed Sunday..
I have a very small update for my craft list. Actually I should have put that I had to wash, dry and iron all the fabric first...that took forever!!

While I was at my Mom's house the other day we were looking at old Photos. I brought some of the albums home with me so I could scan some of the pictures into my computer. I would like to make some sort of album after I get the pictures printed for my children and the granchildren. I think it is so amazing to see some of these pictures. They of course aren't from way way back like the 1800's but they are still really neat to see.
Here is the family home (My Mom's house where she grew up) in South Dakota~
Here is a picture of my Mom when she was little with with my Grandpa(her father)~
This picture has my great granmdma, great grandpa, their daughters Guri (my grandmother) and Rachel. There is another person in the picture who was a visiting relative~
This picture is also of my great grandparents and their children, this was taken after one of their daughters (Julia) died~ she was very young I believe around 17~
Here is a picture of my Grandfathers side of the family, gathered for a picnic~

This is the house where my Mom lived (with her parents, and 3 siblings)growing up after they moved to Minnesota. My grandma lived in this small house until 1974 when a mobile home was brought out for her to live in. The small house had only 2 or 3 rooms and no running water!!
This is a picture of my parents on their wedding day October 4, 1948~
And this is a very small picture of my Dad's barn on their farm in Solway Minnesota~
And one last picture it's of my Mom's great, great Aunt. I just loved her clothing, the long dress and apron~
Well that's it, I have tons more but just wanted to get these up.I am sorry that the pictures aren't the best quality and that makes them kind of hard to see and my use of the scanner isn't great but I did manage to get them on the computer.
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 - Christmas craft list 2008
Decided I would put up my Christmas craft list here on my blog. I was wanting to join the group at the board that I belong to, they just started a thread for Christmas crafts but since one of the ladies (The one who started the thread ,the one who used to be my friend-very long story) already ignores me on the daily thread I am sure she would do the same on that thread and it's already very hurtful to be ignored.
So here is my list for this Christmas, I know it's a big list but would really like to get everything done. I figure if I can at least get half done then I would be doing good. I also have 2 special presents that I have planned for my grandchildren but don't want to list them here in case my daughter reads this...
Blessings,Joann

I know that Monday is pretty much over but I am just getting over here to my blog to put up a quick post.
I have been not feeling well since about Tuesday of last week. This week has been real hard on me as it was also my Dad's birthday and since he has passed away his birthday is always hard to get through for me and then of course I wasn't feeling good on top of that.
Roger sent me shopping today, wow does he know me or what! I went to Joann's and bought some fabric so I can get started on my Christmas projects, I have many planned and will start working on them as soon as I can. I seem to always put things off till the last minute and then it's always a rush to get things done in time. This year we will be here for Christmas (last year we spent it in Oregon) so I at least have until Christmas eve to finish everything. I am trying some new things so don't know how they will work out.
I have done nothing all day, well except for the shopping and washing the fabric. I hope to be back to my regular blogging by Tuesday or Wednesday.
Oh I also have some news, very exciting for me.....We are getting a new stove, it is to be delivered on Wednesday. Yahoo!!! Since it is a slide in type you can't just pull it out and put a new one in, there may be some cracked tile when we do it so we need to make sure that we have plenty of time so in case we need to redo some of the tile around it.
Here is a link to what it looks like, it has a convection oven and a warming drawer. I can't wait to get it!!
For those who have followed this blog and my last blog many of these things will be things you have seen before. I was going through my craft pictures and have over 50 so think I will post a couple of posts. Starting with things from the summer of 2006.
Here are some of my embroidery items~
These are some banners that I embroidered, there is also a spring one but it wouldn't fit on the holder~
This is the blanket that I made my granddaughter, it took many hours but was so worth it in the end
she is laying on it in the hospital (crying of course)~
Here is a quilt I made for My grandson~
** I only did the embroidery on the quilted things, I don't know how to quilt. I used to have a friend that lived in Southern Illinois that I would send things too and she got them quilted for me by a friend that she knew. Just wanted to make sure that I gave credit where credit was due**
Here is a rooster wall hanging that is in my dining area~
Here is a quilt sqaure I made for a pillow for the living room (hasn't been finished yet)~
Here are some Christmas presents I made for last Christmas~
Some dishcloths~
Some dishtowels~
Some of the sets I gave for presents~
Okay that's all for tonight, I will post some more tomorrow.
Today was the party for my Mom for her birthday. November for us is a very busy birthday month. My birthday is on the 3rd my Mom's is on the 5th and my Dad's was the 7th. My Dad always used to make a comment about ~ If I give you $20 on your birthday then you can give $20 to your Mom and then she can give it to me, then that way no one is out any money~ He used to be so funny like that . Roger and his Mom also have a birthday in November, Roger's is the 30th and his Mom's is the 24th.
We went over to my Mom's apartment for lunch of Lasagna, salad and garlic bread and of course cake for desert.
Here are a few pictures from the day~

These next pictures are from last night at Pizza when I gave the kids their trick or treat bags
Here is Dylan with his~
And Katie with hers~
Here is Dylan eating Pizza (pepperoni! His favorite)~
Katie eating and watching cartoons (we were sitting in the cartoon room)~
Here is Jennifer and Matthew and Katie, we had several tables put together~
We had lots of fun and lots of food! It was a very nice evening.
I plan on putting a post up in the next day or so of a lot of craft things I have done, I have had a few e-mails about what I have done in the past with embroidery and sewing and figured instead of e-mailing people I would just post something here. For those of you who follow my blog and my previous blog it will be a lot of things you have already seen (sorry about that). I want to get it up by Monday if possible.
I was wanting to make something for my grandkids for Halloween and really wanted to use my embroidery machine, but I have never used that part on it before. It ended up not being hard to use at all. I was very suprised!
Here are some pictures I took today of the project I was making~
This is the embroidery machine doing Kaitlyn's name~
The name all finished~
Now it's doing Dylan's name~
His is all finished~
Here is the end product~
In this picture you can see both trick or treat bags~
In this one this is what the lining looks like (it's real NEON Orange)
This one is Dylan's ~
And this is Katie's (I put her full name on it)
Now I know everyone is thinking why did I put their names in Black when they don't really show up that well, and the answer is I want my daughter to be able to tell them apart and Dylan knows what his name looks like so he can find his on his own, but people out on the street trick or treating wouldn't be able to know their names by looking at the bags. It's kind of a safety issue, I don't want someone we don't know look at Dylan's bag and walk right up to him and say "Hi Dylan" we all know what can happen from that....so anyway that's why it's in black.
Tomorrow I have to work on my Mom's curtains, I haven't even cut them out yet I figured since tomorrow was Halloween that I better work on those trick or treat bags so I can get them to the kids tomorrow. My Mom's party isn't until Saturday, wow that's not that far away...guess I better get busy.
**Just a quick note, after posting this I looked at the post and the bags look HUGE they are actually pretty small I just measured them and they are approximately 6" tall and 9" wide.**
Well it's done! I know it isn't perfect but it will do for now until I figure out exactly how I want to make one. We didn't buy the one that is made for the camera because well first off it was ugly and second they wanted like $25 for it. I bought $3 worth of fabric and spent about an hour and a half making it. I used very little of the fabric so I still have about 1/2 left of both colors.
Here is how I made it~(remember I am new to sewing and even newer to embroidery like this).
I traced this pattern~
This is what it looked like on the fabric
Then I embroidered it and then sewed it up with some lightweight/medweight interfacing in between the two fabrics
This is what it looks like when it is open~
the camera slides into the pocket in the bottom and then you just flip over the top and it looks like this with the pretty little butterfly on the front~
This is what it looks like with the camera in it~(this picture is the closest for color)
It was actually fairly easy to make and I think it turned out pretty good for a first try.
Now I have to get busy, I was making this instead of cleaning. Today I am going to be cleaning the Living room, Roger's office and my craft room (well as much of my craft room that can be cleaned)
Dinner is in the crockpot, and it smells so good in here!
Have to cut out those kitchen curtains for my Mom either tonight or tomorrow.
Wow today was just packed with things to do, some fun, some not so fun.
I got my refrigerator cleaned out, Did an inventory of both the refrigerator and freezers made a menu, made a grocery list and went grocery shopping. I also got 7 loads of laundry done. That's not bad for not actually functioning until almost noon. I went to bed late last night (almost 2am) and for some reason I kept waking up every hour I woke up at 3, then 4 then 5 this lasted until 7 when I got up and let the dog out and fed her. My head was pounding very bad so I took some medication and went back to sleep and slept until after 10am, then kind of lazied around until noon . I kept the laundry going (the last load is in the dryer right now, almost midnight) and went to Joann's before I went to do the grocery shopping. I bought some books with embroidery things in them.
This is one of the books~
This is the other one~
I also bought 2 flat quarters in purple to make a camera case out of
Aren't these colors so pretty??
After grocery shopping I stopped and picked up a pizza and then came home put all the frozen things away and ate!! I was so hungry and I was exhausted. When it was 6:30pm it felt to me like it was midnight and I was so ready to go to bed but I wanted to make sure to get all this laundry done. I had let it pile up over the weekend so it was my own fault there was so much.
Here is this weeks Menu~
Monday~ Pizza
Tuesday~ Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and homemade rolls
Wednesday~ Spaghetti, salad, veggie, garlic bread
Thursday~ Tacos, Refried beans, rice
Friday~ Breakfast for dinner~ Eggs, sausages, biscuit w/gravy
Saturday~Tomato soup, grilled ham/cheese on Rye, chips
Sunday~ Meatloaf, butter/herb potatoes, green beans
Saturdays and Sundays meals may be different as we are going to my Mom's on Saturday for a late lunch (to celebrate her birthday) so we may not be too hungry. Sunday we are going to a Pizza buffet (John's incredible pizza) for my birthday so the same thing may happen of being not too hungry.
Tommorow is my heavy cleaning day, lots to do but thankfully NO LAUNDRY, well I may do up the cleaning cloths but that's it.
It's almost midnight and I am just so ready to hit the bed, going in now to check the dryer, praying it will be done.
Sunday, October 26, 2008 - My birthday present came yesterday!!!!
I was so excited when my birthday present came yesterday. I knew Fedex was bringing it so I waited and I waited and it finally came. Isn't strange how time goes so slow when you are waiting for something??
For the past 2 years I have been using a camera that we purchased right before Katie was born. We gave our old digital camera to Jennifer so she would have something to take pictures of the kids with. This is the camera that we bought~
It is a very wonderful camera, and takes beautiful pictures. The one thing I didn't like about it was that it was very large and if I wanted to take it anywhere I had to bring it in it's large case and it was just not very practical. I take lots of pictures all the time. I have an account at Flickr and I just uploaded my 1036th picture.
I wanted to get a smaller camera but some of them don't take very good pictures, or if they did they were really expensive. So I did finaly find one that I liked the size of and all of the reviews were really good, and the best thing~It came in a purple/plum color~
This is what came as my birthday present~
In this picture it is sitting on a 3x5 index card~
Isn't it just the cutest little camera?? I still plan on using the old camera but this one I can just put in my pocket or purse and have it with me most of the time.
Now on to other things, I was planning on playing around with the embroidery part of my sewing machine but just never got around to it. On Friday night Roger and I took my Mom and his Mom out to eat at a real nice place called Mimi's, they have real good food. Saturday we put the new gutter up on the patio roof and it looks so nice.
Here is a picture of what we have done so far, it's kind of hard to tell but the patio roof has new white gutter~
Here is what the downspout looks like~
Here is how big our hibiscuis is getting~
And our beautiful butterfly bush~
We have had a busy weekend and now today we are taking it easy, I plan on messy around with the new camera and then watching some football.
I need to work on some curtains for my Mom, she found some rooster fabric that she liked and I told her I would make them for her, so I plan on making those this week sometime.
Yeah!! It's Thursday, I like Thursday's because this is the last day of the week of Roger commuting to work, now I will have him home with me until Tuesday morning
I am doing some experimenting with my embroidery sewing machine this week. There are a few things that I would like to use it for but actually have never even tried that part of the machine yet. I have this thing were I want to do something or make something but keep putting it off because I am So sure it will not turn out. Roger says I just don't have faith in my abilities. If I do try and make something it almost always turns out okay, but it's just the starting part I struggle with. I also think of the cost of things, if I do something and it doesn't turn out then I have wasted the money I used buying the fabric and things.
I have a friend that does all kinds of crafty things and she really encourages me with the things that she does. She does lots of things like embroidery (by hand, not machine) and she makes wonderful things. I am trying to take what she does and try my hand at it and so far have been enjoying it. I am working right now on some embroidered things to put on some bags (tote/purse sized). She does such beautiful work and I am hoping that mine turns out even half as good as hers.
Yesterday Roger and I went to Lowe's to pick up some gutter for our back patio area. We had gutters put on the house many years ago but at the time we weren't sure what we were doing with the roof that is over the patio. Tuesday someone came out and did some work on it for us and now we just have to put up the gutter. It will be so nice to not have a big lake of water right at the edge of the patio where the water used to come down.
Have a blessed Thursday
Blessings,Joann
"Give her of the Fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:31
I just finished the book Fireproof! Oh was it good, I don't want to say much about it as I know it is at the theatre's in movie form right now. But it is definately worth reading. I wanted to read it before I seen the movie and it was so worth it, now I know what to expect in the movie. If anyone gets a chance to see it it will be worth it.
Well we went to Home Depot today and bought a ladder, we needed an extension ladder so we got a 16' one. That was the extent of exciting things we did today...aren't we just crazy crazy people
When we got home I made some tomato soup and grilled chese sandwiches for dinner Yummy!!
Tomorrow I have a busy day, lots to do. I would like to keep working on my Fall cleaning but had taken a short break of it for a while.
Roger ordered my birthday present (My birthday isn't until November)last night online, of course I gave him the name of what I wanted told him they had it at Amazon and what color I wanted so it should be a great gift!! I will take a picture of it when it arrives..
Gotta go it's after midnight and I am getting tired..
Hope and pray that everyone has a great start to your wonderful blessing filled week
Blessings,Joann
