Civil War Unit Study - North Star Safe Quilt
Posted in
Homeschooling

We are working on the following activity, taken from "The Civil War for kids" by Janis Herbert

The North Star Safety Quilt. Did you know when there were underground railroads that they would have certain signs so runaways or others involved knew it was a safe place to come. One sign was a lantern in a certain window. Another was a quilt hanging with the North Star on it.
As part of our unit study we are making a mini version of this quilt. Each of my children is working on it. WE started yesterday and I will update with pics!!!
WE are really enjoying this book. I borrowed it from the library - good to check there first on things - helps to save money. Several unit studies I read reccomend it and I would too!
