It's Show and Tell with Mary!
We spent 6 days over at our homestead, right during the "big one" that rolled through the PNW the past few days. It hit a high of 14 or 15 and plunged to 0 at night. One morning it was 37 inside the cabin (it's hard to get up in the middle of the night to toss wood in the stove). Now that we have power, we have an electric blanket. Very cozy.
We had some visitors--out for a morning snack. The snow was about 8" and crunchy. I loved walking through the forest, with the snow weighing down the pine trees and the sun shining. It was cold--about 8 degrees--but so fresh and clean!
In the next picture, the flat part is where we hope to put in the pole barn next spring. Isn't it a lovely view?
Last but not least, I tried out the loft as an office. I liked sitting next to the window and looking into the forest. Of course, I hope to have a real desk and computer over there some day. But these things take time. Anyway, it was hard to go home to the West Side. I love the peace and quiet of the "middle of nowhere."
Oh how beautiful! I so miss the mountains.... I have always lived close to the mountains.. I mean within viewing distance.... in the West Side of WA and in the rocky mt states and in Guatemala -- right smack dab next to a volcanic mountain! I so miss them -- especially durring the holidays!
Merry Christmas,
gloria
The pictures are beautiful with the snow and dear.
What a great place for inspiration for an author, such as yourself!

It's Stef. How ...pristine! And c-c-c-cold! Here's it's raining like crazy and we narrowly missed an ice storm. I have heard nothing from Steve or Dennis, just the cheery note from Cat. I'm so glad Andrew will have a good drive home!
PS no photos of the Nativity scene, alas. Four younger brothers and sisters.
Ohhh I just love seein what you are up to on your homestead ! It reminds me so much of what we are doing. I know what you mean by liking sitting next to the window while you type at the computer. I have my little nook by the big window too. [0= After the holidays I am going to start typing away at my ebook cookbook. I can't wait to start !
I love your homestead project, and I'm so thankful you now have electricity. That really is one essential ingredient, isn't it? I'm still giggling at your comment about my super-sized lunch box with Splenda!

How lovely, to be up there during a big storm! What do you plan to put in your new pole barn when it is built? Lots of animals? It is a lot of fun to watch the progress being made. Have a wonderful Christmas!

Okay, the snow is beautiful. But, strangely, I am allergic to snow. I get sick if I am out in snow for even a few minutes. I like looking at the pictures, but not actually being there.
You look very cozy though!

Does your house have good insulation? That is a good pic of your deer. I just love vacations like that. I don't get up and throw wood on the fire at night either.
Musings of a frustrated former small-town "farm" wife, who's waiting on pins and needles to "get outta town" and back to the country life. We have 14 acres on a mountain in North Central Washington state, where we plan to move and establish a homestead in the middle of nowhere.
