Raising Ducks

Has anyone raised ducks? My son wants a couple ducks so I'm going to buy 4 ducklings. But I'm just curious to if anyone has pointers for ducks. I've never raised any.

I've been looking online for ordering just to see what's out there. So that we know next time.

Any links or ideas you've done/tried would be helpful

Thanks

Hello,

I have One duck at this time. My duck lives with the chickens so we feed it chicken feed. It is cheaper to. She is fine with that and is Not skinny. You are not supposed to have them on an open feeder. Only put four to five handfuls in their feeder or they can eat so much it is hard to move around and they end up dying. And always have something for them to swim in.

hope this helps,
Makayla

for sharing this.

I was told I can't have my ducks and chicks together as babies. But grown ones are fine...lol.

I was raised on a farm and we had ducks and I just got my kids 2 ducks about 3 weeks ago and kept them in a cage in the house til they got to big. What do you want to know. I had my baby chick and ducks in a cage together for about a week then it gets a little sticky because the ducks grow faster then the chick and they pick on them. Oatmeal is what mine ate. They actually liked that better then the chick feed and the chickens went wild over it.
If I can help I will.

Ducks do grow a lot faster but while they are not too much bigger then can be with the chicks. We fee them chicken feed as well. Make sure they have fresh water (very important) and they love brown banana peels. Mine gobble them down so fast. They (and the chickens) love scraps from the garden and when we make salads.
God Bless,

that the ducks *could* give my chickens an illness. Because ducks are *wetter* this came from the lady at the feed store where we buy our food for our pigs and chickens we have now.....lol.

So I was going by that. I certanitly didnt' want to lose baby chicks due to that.
