Chicken Hatching

I've read people talk about this. And I'm very interested in it. Right now we don't have a rooster, no idea if I'll end up with one when I by my chickens this weekend. If I do no big deal really.

My question to those that have done this. What is needed before you start. I've read about an incubater and a candler. I bet neither of those are spelled right...lol.

If you have any information or links to check out please do leave me the information. Then I have a head start so I know what is needed if we get that far.

Not a 100% sure, but I think you can use a really good flash light instead of a candler - it's hard to remember as a child but I think we did!

Lol, I hear you about winter!!!! I'm not sure I can handle winters in a skirt! ;)

I don't know if you were reading my blog then, but in Jan. I miscarried and I found myself challenged by many ideas. Would we have more children? It was difficult to trust (and not be angry!) when I realized I might be pg again very soon.

I will have to blog about my journey to this pregnancy soon - but some family won't know until next week so I'm trying to keep it quiet yet and not put a ticker on my blog. :)

Blessings to you, I think I'll add you as a friend!
Ashley

If you are getting chicks then you need a brooder box, heat lamp, water, feeder. If you are getting eggs to hatch then you need an incubator then the brooder box and such come later (for when they hatch). I just use a flashlight to candle my eggs. Works great! Don't forget a good chick starter feed. I always use unmedicated but both medicated and unmedicated are available.
God Bless,

Right now we are getting chicks. But at some point I'd like to hatch some eggs as a learning experience for my son. I know he'd love it.

I appreciate any and all suggestions. As I'm new to this.
