Here I am yet again. Must be a record. Maybe there's just more going on then in the winter months.

Last night my husband was going to work on the outdoor pig pen area. We'd went last weekend and bought 6 cattle panels to make an outdoor pen for them. Right now they are in a small area in the barn and well its fine unless they grow quickly....lol. One of the girls will be butchered first. And we hope to buy a boar to breed the other. Get some babies and raise and sell them. My husband said he heard they are going cheap at the sale barns. Which we don't know for sure but it could be anywhere from $20- $40 a pig. Which is fairly cheap.

I think my husband is thinking of breeding once, maybe more then once. Not sure, but afterwards if we didn't want the boar we'd probably sell him so he could breed again or someone could butcher him. Not sure yet. Our freezer isn't that huge. Its like 4ft long by I think 2.5 feet wide. Not sure. ITs a smaller one. I think an 8 cubic foot one. But can't be for sure. We bought it from mu husbands brother several years ago. At least 6 or 7......lol.

One thing though is I hope we can build a small porch off the back of the house for it. Then in the winter months it wouldn't need to be plugged in since our winters are sometimes cold. Although this last one wasn't too bad but for the food it would have been great....lol.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it but we have 10 Chickens. I got them from my SIL when they had to move, so they were free. We've been keeping track of eggs we get daily. I added up what we got in Feb and we had 143 eggs in Feb. And thus far in March we've gotten 104.

I've given away several dozens as has my mom. Granted we could sell them but my dh has decided if we get overwhelmed with eggs to just give them away :)

On Monday the new babies were to be in at Fleet at our local town. I"m hoping to buy at least 6 more chickens. And then just 4 ducks. As my son wants ducks.

Not sure on the kinds of chickens I'll get. I was thinking if they had them to get like 2 Sultans I think that's what they were called they have floofy hair on the top of their heads.....lol. I was told they were good for kids. And I"m sure my son would love to pet the chickens more. The only time we can pet some now is when they are sitting.

We have one little brown one, 3 black ones that have a greenish color in their feathers. Then the black and white ones that I was told were Silver Laced Wsomething......lol

I think it would be neat to get some chickens that lay other colored eggs but brown....lol
