Catching Up

Posted in General Ramblings

Well I've posted more the last 2 days then in awhile.

Figured i'd get some updates in. Not much has been going on really, I shared we got a new horse that make 14 horses out here. 2 of them are a friend of my parent's, as he has no other place to keep them. I heard the other day he bought another one. No idea if that one will be brought out here as well but anywho we are full up on horses.

A few weeks ago we finally opened the corral gate and let them out and about in the pastures to eat fresh grass. They've been loving it. They didn't do the usualy run and kick up their heels after being cooped up in the corral for the winter months. Its always fun to watch if they do get out and do that.

They've done a bit of running, you hear the pounding of their hooves on the ground, as they hit the swamp water. It splashes around them as they round the corner. Its a sight I tell you, all 10 mares and 2 geldings running. The other 2 stallions aren't with the rest at this time. One Sonic is new and we are seperating one corral to put him and the other stallion Diego in. Putting them together isnt' a good thing. We have Diego and the other 2 geldings together but needed to seperate because Diego was being horrid. He's just mad that he's away from his *women* LOL.

We are waiting til either early June or mid June to start the breeding process. We really need to get our hands on the minerals/vitamins to give the mares before they get pregnant and the stuff to give them while pregnant. I don't know how many horse owners do this but we lost 3 foals to probably lack of vitamins and minerals and we don't want that to happen again. Also the reason Diego is seperated from the Mares is that we don't want winter foals, spring/summer is just easier on them, otherwise they are just small and its too cold for them. We just prefer this.

My son, Caleb and I did saddle up Katie and Daisy for a ride down our half mile driveway/township road. Should have went further but Katie was giving me a hard time, her and I need to get a better understanding of each other.

I need to work with her anyway, she's a lazy walker, her hooves drag at times and we stumble at times while riding. So I guess I get to lead rope her over objects so she pays attention to where she's going more. That should be interesting since getting her to walk through a mud puddle is a challenge.....lol.

Dh and my father disked up the garden spot, but of course grass has taken over already. I need to get seeds. I'm determined to at some point get a garden like my grandmother and grandfather had. I mean its rewarding to see what you can grow and eat. Flowers and I get along better but veggies and I are going to work on it.

Dh, myself and our son are going camping this weekend. I'm looking forward to it. It will be our sons first time camping in a tent. Last time he camped he went with gpa and gma in a borrowed motor home. They went camping and horse trail riding, back in Sept.

Thanks for stopping by and that's about all to update on.
