Desert Rose ~ Necessities and Temptations | |
Spring Time, Busy TimeGood Day,I haven't posted in such a long time. So many things, around the place, need attention in the spring time. I am on line every day but sometimes I just don't have anything great to say. Last week we had to put our Skipper dog down. She had been with us for 14 years and was very much loved. It was a sad day but we know that she doesn't hurt any longer and although we are sadden by the loss we knew it was time for her to rest. The gardens and orchard are cleaning up nicely. We have had to restart lots of seeds, I think the squirrels might be stealing from us. We have been live trapping the little fellows and relocating them to a near by creek, there are lots of trees for them to climb and play in. Here is a picture of a rose from my gardens to share with you: Thanks for stopping by. Have a lovely day. Happy Days! After a rather long and tedious winter, we are coming in to warm weather. Oh, I am so thankful that the days are growing longer and warmer. There is still snow on the rims of the canyon walls that surround this little valley, and there is lots of snow in the mountains in the southeast. Where my house sits, in the middle of the valley, the snow is almost all melted away, except for the shadowy places. Where the ground is bare, it is mushy like a little girls mud pie. In a few short weeks, the mushy will begin to be firmer as the ground thaws and little suprises will begin to pop out the ground to greet my ever curious eyes.It is time to talk gardens and seeds with my family, what we will plant, what projects we will work on, what to do here and there around the place. Oh, I do love planning these sort of things. With the end of cold weather I will have to get back to my healthier way of life. I lost around 30lbs last year and have gained back 4lbs over the hard, cold months of December and January. Now that it is warming up, I can get out to take long walks with my family and I can start to do my exercises again. I never like doing those during the coldest months, maybe because I seem to get chilled so easily. So it is time to rededicate myself to my health, better eating habits, to gardening, and to learning to appreciate all the gifts that God has blessed me with. Thank you for visiting. Our Daily BreadToday was baking day at my house. As I worked on mixing the dough, then kneading it and setting it to rise I pondered the question, "Do I really trust God for my daily bread?"This is today's daily bread. Will I trust God to provide the other needs for my family? I think this is an area of my life that I need to work on. Thank you for visiting. Joy Bells and Happy DaysMy chickens are laying again. They are starting slow, we got one egg on Saturday, one Sunday and three today! They went off laying in November and we have had to rely on store bought eggs. I prefer my own home grown eggs, not only for taste and freshness, I know that my little hens are very healthy, happy and well cared for.My birds had such a horrible Fall, a racoon started coming around and killed off all of the free range chickens that we had, including the roosters. We are planning to add to our flock this Spring, so maybe we will add a rooster or two when the time comes. I find that I miss the sounds of roosters crowing throughout the day. Thanks for stopping by. Winter ProjectsWith the cold weather, my mind and hands turn toward sewing and other crafts. This week has been a busy week for me and my Jennifer. I made13 cloth dinner napkins. Jennifer and I made this bread cloth to help keep biscuits and rolls warm for serving. Both projects were made from scrape fabric, costing us nothing but our time and effort. In addition, we learned a little about doing applique. I had thought I would not like applique all that much but I found it very enjoyable, now a new skill is being added to our abilities. Here are some pictures of the bread cloth: Thank you for stopping by.

Yesterday afternoon, while doing a little cleaning and straightening around the place, someone looked out the kitchen window and alerted me to our visitors. We entertained three bucks and about five does. They came in and helped themselves to some old Morning Glory vines, and poked around where ever they pleased. When they were satisfied that there was nothing else they wanted, they went on their merry way, and without a word of Thanks!!! Can you imagine the cheek of these creatures!Just walk right in! Checking out the dining facilities!
Not much here to interest the connoisseur! It was lovely having our uninvited guests drop by for a few minutes. I was sorry that we didn't have more to offer them. The good news is that I know I will see them around the valley all year long and in the summer they will have my roses to snack on.

Today was soap making day at my place. I made this nice batch of cucumber castille soap for some friends that live up north. It is scented with a very nice cucumber/melon fragrance oil from Michael's. They sent us a beautiful quilt a few weeks ago, a batch of soap every year is a small thing in comparison to their thoughtfulness.Happy Birthday

Today is my oldest daugher's 18th birthday. Sarah is such a wonderful daughter, she helps me with so many things and is one of my greatest supporters. She has made my life richer for knowing her and watching her grow to a beautiful young woman.Happy Birthday Sarah!
I love you.
Rocking Chair Cushion CoversWith the cold weather hanging over our house, I am taking the opportunity to work on some of my unfinshed crafts and also working on things that I have dreamed of making. This is the project I am working now, a rocking chair seat cushion cover. It will be quilted with a rose design in the upper right hand corner. I have been wanting something for the chair for a long time. I was inspired to make a quilted seat cushion by the Edwardian themed book "The Country Diary Book of Crafts". I have gotten so many wonderful ideas from browsing through that one book. Friend

Friend - noun - one attached to another by affection, regard or esteem.
This is a partial definition of the word friend. We call many people friend without ever considering what a friend truly is. We all want to be loved, adored, and thought well of, but the truth is that we are not always lovable, adorable or well thought of. We have different opinions, moral compasses, and beliefs. These differences that exist in people can and often do cause friction.
True friends are obligated to express when they feel or see that their friend is heading in the wrong direction. If you can't trust your friend to tell you the truth, who can you trust. A true friend will always sacrifice themselves on the alter of friendship to help out one that they believe is headed in a wrong direction, or needs to take responsibility or needs to examine their life choices. It isn't easy to say the words that have to be said on these occasions but a true friend will say them. Alas, it is sad that the recipient of the sacrifice doesn't always understand the significance of the act.
Where is this leading. A few days ago I was considered a friend, until I spoke the truth. Now I am no longer considered a friend, better this than being a fair weather friend. { Last Page } { Page 1 of 3 } { Next Page } |
