I have never been one much into writing things that others might read, but I decided this year I was going to try and do more of the things that I am not totally comfortable with. I guess I should say a little about myself. I have always lived in North Dakota, well one year out of state for work, but other then that I have spent my whole life in this beautiful state. I was raised on a dairy farm and would love to get back to that way of life. We grew our own food, butchered our own meat, had our own milk, of course, raised chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, sheep, rabbit, turkeys and guinese a few years too. I was raised with the concept that you don't waste what you have and share whatever you have extra of. In the winter we worked with horse, which I was sure was the norm until I went to school and discovered otherwise. Course, then I thought everyone else was missing out cause they didn't get to have a sleighride almost every day in the winter. When I was growing up we also canned, baked, made preserves and our own soap. The soaping is something that I turned into a business about 7 years ago. I was totally facinated by the process from the minute I watched my aunts and mother make a batch of soap. Now that I make my own I use vegetable oils instead of animal fats. That is another story though. I went off to college and got AS degrees in Forestry, Parks and Recreation Management and Wildlife Management. I was able to work 4 years in this field before I went to work for a construction company, managed a motel and then finally started my own business. I got married a few years back and now have two beautiful little girls that I totally adore. Sometimes I look back and wonder how I ever got so blessed. When I married my husband he had two boys from his first marriage so combined we have 4 children. Ever since my first daughter was born I started thinking about homeschooling and now that she is 2.5 I am doing a lot of research on the topic. I hope to start homeschooling her this year. Well guess that is good enough for now. Lydia aka DakotaRose |
