I'm stuffed

My sister Becky from Texas treated her in laws, our sister Carry, and my family to dinner tonight at the Texas Roadhouse. We all shared fries w/cheese and bacon, a cactus onion, and some rattlesnake bites which were a bit on the spicy side.  I had a sirloin steak smothered in onion and mushrooms with a bbq rib, sweet potato, and a salad.  It was delicious.  My husband will eat good for lunch tomorrow since I brought half of it home.  Way too much food.  Well my youngest son Jordan passed his Asvab test for the Navy and qualified for the job he wants to do.  He will probably go to Syracuse to sign his papers on Thursday.  Then he will have to wait to see when he leaves for boot camp.  I am so proud of him.  He is finally seeing a direction for his life.  Sweet sleep for everyone. :o)

Busy, busy, busy

Well indeed the sun did shine today.  That's good because tomorrow rain is predicted.  I like the warmer weather but don't appreciate the mud that is created when the snow starts melting.  Of course our dogs are quite happy to march thru it to see who can make the most foot prints on the kitchen floor - thank goodness for vinyl flooring.  Tonight I made cheeseburger pie, turkey and biscuits, and a pot of turkey noodle soup is in the making.  I like to cook several meals ahead for the times we are busy after work. Time to relax and enjoy a nice cup of coffee.  :o)

End of a weekend

It never fails but Saturday and Sunday seem to fly right by and before you know it is the start of a new work week. I am ahead of the game 1). Meals planned for the week - done  2). Laundry washed, folded, and put away - done  3). Thankful I am able bodied to work and have a job - always.  Hubby cleaned up the kitchen for me when I went to the store.  He is very good that way.  My sister brought dinner today for family day.  We had chili, italian bread, and chocolate pie for dessert.    It was delicious.  Have a restful sleep and may there be sunshine in the morning.  :o)

It's finally Friday

I am tired.  I have been trying to keep a cold at bay - remind self not to give so many kisses to granddaughter who has a cold.  I just can't help myself.  She is too cute, funny, and just so adorable. End of the work week but many things on my to do list - make a pot of soup, pack away snowmen, and laundry.  My older sister Becky flies in tonight from Texas.  This is my sweet granddaughter Cherish making a funny face.

Enjoy your day :o)

It is cold

Well the 30 degree weather we had yesterday is gone.  Today it is very cold and blustery. Even the dogs had second thoughts about going outdoors. I will just enjoy indoor activities today - a hot cup of coffee, make a pot of soup, and tackle a spare bedroom that needs some attention. After that I will read my book I have been neglecting.  Enjoy your day!  :o)

Merry Christmas to all

Long time - just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve with my husband's family, spent Christmas morning at home, and then had dinner today with my side of the family. It was special because all my kids were together. My older sister arrives tomorrow from Texas so I am looking forward to seeing her, my nieces, and brother-in-law. I hope everyone enjoyed their day.

Today's goals

Today is "tackle all the wonderful fuzzy creatures lurking in the back of the refridgerator day." All the small containers of forgotten grape tomatoes, lunch meat (sore subject), and the what could it possible have been objects. With a teenage son, who is constantly on the go now because of new drivers license, I seem to have more leftovers. I have set a goal for myself to be more aware of the money we are throwing away. After the refridgerator is tackled, I need to wipe down all my counters, shelves, and stove. I also need to mop the floors and make a grocery list. Tonight I work at the stadium and JuJu (as referred to by my niece) has a lacrosse game at 5:00. I hope everyone has a great day.

Happy 4th of July

Today we are going to enjoy being with family, having a picnic in the isolated thunderstorms predicted for our area, and making memories. I love this saying "Cherish yesterday, Dream tomorrow, Live today"

Taking it all in

I enjoy reading other blogs - there is a lot of good information that others are willing to share from recipes, seed planting, and spring cleaning. I have truly been inspired. Things are pretty busy around here - I am taking a bible class. Orientation was on Thursday, Session 1 was on Friday, and Session 2 was last night. There are 10 more sessions. Jordan starts varsity lacrosse practice on Monday. While most of you have outside livestock to take care of (my future dream) - I on the other hand have inside critters. I cleaned the rabbit cages yesterday - Simon and Fabio are very happy. Fabio is our new lionhead rabbit. Oliver the dove and Jordan's hamster Spaz will be done today. Tigger, Mylady, and Neemo are the felines of the house (very spoiled) along with very spoiled pooches Tessa, Sasha, and Lucas. Lots to trip over in a small house - but all worth it. Today Kyle and Jordan will go to fellowship while I whip up some casseroles for the nights I have class. It is my turn to cook today for the family gathering - so I better get started.

Snow day

Well yesterday all the fifth grade aides got together and decided to wear white socks to bed so we could have a snow day. It worked - a little too well - 8 inches to be exact. We didn't want to take 325 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to the opera at the high school. I like the fine arts - but please - 325 squirming students in one place. lol Today I cleaned my dining room. While everyone else is planting seeds my dining room was sprouting with my son's shoes, a bookbag, and a couple of coats draped over a chair. I haven't figured out why children dump their things in one place and then go to their room. Probaby the same reason I have been tripping over my son's lacrosse bag, weight set, and dirt bike boots on the enclosed front porch. Note to self to reintroduce the concept of everyone picking up their belongings and putting them in the correct place.

Family Time

Celebrated my mom's birthday today. My sister Cindy made her 2 throw pillows for her bed. She put her children's handprints on the pillows - she did a really nice job. Mom loved them. My sister Carry and I got her new dishes - they were really pretty. We all munched on pizza, strawberry shortcake, and played some cards. I really enjoy our family time. At this time we have a small house in town with a nice grape arbor out back with room for a small garden. I'm hoping to get a small house in the country again so we can have another potbelly pig. There's nothing like a little pig. But for now - we appreciate the blessings we do have which is a roof over our heads, our jobs, and good health.

Savory Rice and Beans

1 lb. ground turkey, 1/2 cup chopped onions, 1/2 teaspoon thyme leaves crushed, 1 teaspoon olive oil, 1 can 16 oz. Bush's baked beans, 1 can 13 3/4 oz. chicken broth, 1 cup diced celery, 1 cup raw rice. In a frypan add olive oil, ground turkey, onion, celery and thyme - cook until meat is browned and onions and celery are tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 25 minutes - or until done - stir occasionally. Makes about 5 cups.
