Who We Are
Posted in Around the Homestead
Even though I'm starting over my blog I wanted to re-post this post from when I started my original blog last summer.
Welcome to Country Living in The City. My husband and I live outside of Los Angeles and are homesteaders at heart.
Even though we come from different backgrounds and different countries, the one thing we had in common was growing up in families that grew their own food. So when we bought our home, we knew we had to include a garden. Over the first 4 years we developed that garden and tried to add something new every year.
How did we get from a garden to an urban homestead? Well things just sort of fell into place, and it just snowballed from there. We are no where near as far as some of our heroes in the urban homesteading world but we are well on our way.
It started, two years ago when a friend introduced us to Nourishing Traditions and the idea of eating organic and local. That just made us want to expand our garden, as well as make sure our gardening practices were indeed organic.
Then last year I attended a seminar through our church about our responsibility as stewards of God's environment. This lead us to really start to question how we could learn to be greener, less materialistic, and just lead more simple lives.
The one thing we've discovered from this process is the need to learn from others. So I hope to meet people who will be inspired by our journey as well as find others who will continue to inspire us as we go forward.
So I hope you will enjoy reading this blog as we continue on our journey to suburban simplicity.
What will you find here? Stories of our journey, pictures and accounts of the different projects we take on around the homestead, our thoughts on what suburban simplicity means, and possibly some recipes.
