Seek Ye First
Luk 12:31 ~ "But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you."
We often hear those words of Christ, but I for one, often get distracted by the promise of my needs being met and forget about the Kingdom.
As I was praying this morning, I really pondered what it means to seek the kingdom. Of course, spending time in fellowship with Our Father is an important part of that.
But, there must be more. I began to think of my neighbors that live across the street. Dad injured and unemployed. Mom is working hard to bring in money. Grandma is in a stage of COPD and has to stop halfway across the street just to catch her breath. Hmm. What can I do to further the kingdom here?
There’s also the troubled teen aged girl I just started mentoring. I used to be employed at a group home for delinquent girls and she is one of the residents. Since I am not working, I have the opportunity to really reach out to her.
Even in my own family, there are needs. Not every member of my family is saved. Some living dangerously, and can be difficult to reach out to.
I’ve been getting up early for months now, praying, reading my bible, studying God’s word and worshipping Him. I continued to feel that it wasn’t enough. I thought maybe I needed to get up earlier and pray more (I DO need to get up earlier, but for other more practical reasons).
Now, I am convinced that what is missing is my reasonable service to God; bringing light into the darkened world and sharing the hope that I have in Christ.
I have challenged myself to three things: Start a women’s bible study (the basics) and invite my neighbors; be an example of Christ to the young girl I mentor; to reach out to one of my troubled in-laws and offer her a lifeline.
I’d love any prayers for wisdom and strength!
