Pumpkin Log #1
Recently, I visited a friend’s garden and she told me my pumpkins should already have blossoms. I was very concerned because they didn’t. What if they never did? What if I had no pumpkins?
The next day, Geneva (my daughter) and I carefully inspected all the plants and we detected little tiny buds. Happy day Perhaps we would get a few pumpkins!
Not long after that, we saw our first “baby” pumpkin (I think I’ve mentioned it before LOL). It has become part of our daily routine to go out, comb through the huge leaves and look for tiny green balls.
To date, I have counted 18! So exciting! I have no idea what I will do with 18 pumpkins, but it’s fun to watch them grow. Our first pumpkin is already about an inch in diameter and a yellowish orange pumpkin. We’ve name her Mavis.
I can’t remember what kind I planted, so it’s a bit of a mystery. I think I planted “Jacksnack”, a small, eatable variety (I know you can eat them all, but some are tastier than others)-good for pies, though not as sweet as a sugar pumpkin (the seeds were sold out).
Today, I will buy some REAL batteries and hopefully figure out how to post a picture of the little darlings!

I had thrown a butter nut squash into my compost heap some months back. It grew a little and produced a very small squash. I left it there for some reason. It had stopped growing and all, but I left it alone. Well I noticed the other day, after pulling up what was left of my garden and having nothing else growing now, that it was taking off. It has several yellow flowers on it and a bunch of tiny little squash. I am very excited about having something to go check on. I think it just had to wait for the right time of the year to start going.
Take care.

I love pumkins! I get them and put them all around in groups for a fall season decoration.
Did you know that if you take a small pumpkin (not nearly ready to pull yet) and get a pencil and write on the skin, applying pressure to slightly penetrate the skin, as the pumkin grows the word/name/whatever that you wrote will also grow and will be raised up slightly on the pumpkin. It's neat to do that for children...write their names, small, on different ones and when they mature turn them loose in the pumkin patch to find "their" pumpkin!

I am excited for you all, I know the feeling you get when the first little ball is seen on the vine, Oh what a rush!!!
We have watermelons this year and they are almost ready to pick. I think we will have a watermelon feast and invite some kids over.
You could have a pumkin decorating day, have some friends over, get some paint, and have fun decorating the pumpkins.
