Mid-week "Must-do"s
I am so bummed! I bought batteries from the dollar tree so I could use the camera. Now, I know they aren't known for high quality merchandise, but I thought surely I could get enough juice out of them to take a few photos! No sirree. It had just enough power to turn on, then off again. Rats. I was so hoping to post some pictures of my new kitchen shelves, my garden and my Finally Finished knitting projects. Maybe this weekend.
Today my friend Cheri is coming over for tea. I was sad to think I had nothing nice to serve her. Lentil chili just didn’t seem very elegant.
After some, thought I’ve decided on a theme: comfort food. I am making home-made tomato soup with basil, grilled cheese sandwiches (using garlic butter and a little parmesan to dress it up and grilled on my little sandwich grill) on home-made sourdough bread.
Dessert gave me a little trouble until I remembered I had about a cup of chocolate chip cookie dough left from Monday night. I will bake small cookies from it. They will seem more dainty and appropriate for tea.
Instead of fooling around on the computer, I should be in the kitchen sanding cupboards and doors. I gave myself a goal to get 5 done today, although I may run out of paint!
Since my car is still not running (I am so going to celebrate when it finally works), I am borrowing my BIL’s truck again. I have to plan all my errands for the 5 hours I have it:
-
Take a young lady to coffee (I mentor at a local group home for girls)
-
Hardware store for paint
-
Fabric store for curtains *
-
Grocery store
-
Dollar store for Sunday School supplies
-
Pick up FREE canning jars from a lady living on the outskirts of town.
-
Pick up my BIL and let him have his vehicle back.
Hmm. It seems like too much. Maybe I will take the young lady with me on some of these. Then I can spend casual time with her and still get stuff done.
* Someone said their daughter made valances with cloth napkins and it gave me an idea. I was cleaning out the cedar chest and I found two long “dresser scarves” my grandmother embroidered. I want to save them, but it’s not at all my style to have them on dressers. I am going to cut each one in half and make a valance from them (We watch antiques road show and my kids were opposed to the idea since it might make them less valuable. Since I want to keep them as a memento and also use them, I'm not worried about their monetary value).
Thanks for the great idea!

That stinks about the batteries. I would have thought you'd get a bit more out of them than that! Wow! The food sounds delicious, and perfect for tea! Also, could you use the dresser scarves for a table runner? I don't know how large they are, but that may be a use you could do without having to cut them apart.

The same thing happened to me recently at Dollar General. I bought what's considered good, name brand batteries there and they hardly had any juice at all. I won't do that again. I'll wait and get my batteries at Walmart.

I know how you feel about the bateries. I stop letting my ds buy toys when we would go there. They would fall apart before we left the parking lot.
I also know how you feel about not having your car. My older ds was using mine this week while his was being repaired and I felt lost. There have been many times that I was without. I hate driving and would rather stay home, but when you dont have that car sitting there for you, you want to go somewhere.
Have a great day.
