Growing, growing...gone?

I don’t believe a single bean plant is growing after all.  I mentioned this at the garden shop at our local hardware store and the woman asked me “Did you inoculate them?”  I have visions of myself squatting beside each mound with a miniscule syringe, cotton balls, band-aids and my best bedside manner.

Instead, I think my sunflowers are growing!  That is nice, although I would have preferred beans if I’d had the choice.  Something is eating the leaves and this morning I got down low and could see lots of black things that I think are bugs!  Anyone have ideas on what these critters are and how to get rid of them?  I don’t want my entire garden eaten up.  I think gardening can be as emotionally draining as raising children; you worry about their health and feel helpless when things aren’t going the way you hoped.

I didn’t weed the little plot for two days and I was astonished at what popped up while I neglected my friends.  I was mostly joking when I said they grew up overnight, but now I know it’s no exaggeration; weeds must triple in size daily!  It’s really extraordinary.  I wish I had some use for them.

My pumpkin plants are getting HUGE.  If nothing else, I can take great pleasure in that miracle.  Let me re-think that.  C.S. Lewis said a miracle is something that exceeds the natural.  I guess that means it’s not really a miracle, since it is natural for a seed that’s watered and has soil to grow, but it sure seems like one to me!  Anyway, it’s remarkable.

It’s another breezy, sunny day.  I noticed several of my corn stalks were leaning and a couple were actually uprooted…I think it’s time to stake the poor things so that’s what I will do today!  I will try to post some pictures, too.

Make it a great day!

Thanks for your prayers! So far, no chicken pox. What does this mean? I incubate slowly? Or I didn't get close enough to get them? Who knows! I'm trying to take it day by day and have faith in God's goodness. :) Just wanted to let you know!!
Hmmmm . . . I've grown beans without "innoculating" (which is soaking them overnight, right??) but I keep the ground absolutely soaked for the first week.
