Moving this Weekend!

We will be finishing up some work on our "new nest" this week, and plan to move in on Saturday .  I have mega-packing to do because I promised my dear hubby I'll be done by Thursday !  Now the pressure is on... I think maybe I should have said, "It'll all be packed by the time you are ready to load the trailer, honey."

I'm seeing lots of things that are headed for the "give away" area, if I can just keep the children (and my dh) from picking up on my ruthless purging plan .  I even tried that with the bookshelves, but my husband vetoed that one .  So, I went ahead and packed all of the excess homeschool books, and after I've gotten settled in, those will be posted for sale.  I purged my closet and filled a large garbage bag with clothes, especially those that have "shrunk" ...and the ones I've had since before my oldest dd was born! 

OK, I've got to get busy with more purging and packing.  This morning we're packing the kids' rooms (oh boy), and if I have any energy left, this afternoon we'll tackle the kitchen cabinets.  

First things first, though- I'm going to check on my newly sprouted seedlings and have a cup of tea .

OH, I almost forgot, I was given a greenhouse!!!!!   Our friends who are renting us our new nest also gave me their old greenhouse.  I can't wait to have a place to start seeds and grow things all winter long!  God is Good!

Thanks for sharing your moving adventure - I've done it too, and found it both exhilarating and trepidating! I am not sure how old the kids are, (since I've just stumbled onto your blog recently and haven't perused all of it), and I've no idea if you're battling any of their resistance--yet-- but I found that they seem to adjust so much better to all the changes when they are in on decision-making and in charge of specific things (finding homes for their stuff in the new place, etc.)
I'm sure it will go well for you - you have a good handle on things (time for tea and sprouting plants is a sure sign of that!)
In any case, here's a few tips for ya that helped us:

*Label the electronics power supply cords and adapters! In today's digital household, it can be hard to tell power adapters apart. Does this one power the cell phone, PDA, laptop or video game? Choose the wrong one, and you can kill your electronic gadget!! Keep power adapters matched to their proper devices using stick-on address labels. Write the device name ("Ebook", "Handspring", "Dad's Cell Phone") on the label.
* If giving away a large number of toys to friends, having a ‘Momento Ceremony’ can be fun and useful for closure. After all purged items have been separated from the items to keep, select what is designated for giving to each friend. These items can be boxed together (one box per friend) and wrapped, like a gift if they want to. Friends can be invited over (to recieve it & say preliminary or last good-byes) in a party atmosphere where lots of pictures are taken. Your child will then have a picture of their toys and friends, as a momento as well.
