Ramblings.....

Ever have so much "stuff" just spinning around in your brain that you can't concentrate?  That's me today, just lots of random thoughts, questions, ideas, all popping in and out and making me just a tad bit crazy !

Let's see.....random thought # whatever is I need to get back into a routine of cooking healthy meals.  Fast food and sugar have taken their toll.  It's COLD here today and I couldn't squish into either of the 2 pair of jeans I own (and still breathe) to save my life !  Good thing I bought those horrid tights a few weeks ago... I hate those things, but at least my legs will be warm.

Speaking of cooking healthy, whole foods......here's a little tidbit to let you know just how far off the path I've wandered :

A few weeks ago our small group had an outreach to the homeless in our area.  We took blankets, coats, hats, gloves, hot drinks and soup to the park where the homeless congregate and handed them out.  I made 2 big pots of soup.  One Mexican Mystery soup (whatever I could find in the freezer plus lots of spices-cumin, Mexican oregano, chili powder), which turned out to be the favorite soup of the day...gotta love those Kitchen Adventures ; and Beef Stew.  I wanted to put barley in the beef stew but for some reason could not find any at the grocery store or Wal-Mart...don't people eat barley these days???  It's even in those little cans of Campbell's soup, isn't it?  Anyway,  no barley to be had, so I decided I'd use brown rice instead...it's healthy.  I opened up the cabinet and didn't see the bag of brown rice that I *knew* was in there.  I looked in the other cupboard, nope.  Back to the "grain cabinet"... "Oh, there it is, in that rather LARGE plastic container!"..... I should've gotten the hint, but NO into the strainer I tossed my "rice",  and rinsed it, all the while thinking to myself, "You know, it's been WAY too long since you've cooked brown rice...it even looks funny." Well, I let my "rice" soak for a couple of hours and then turned on the burner.  I brought it to a boil and put the lid on, still thinking, "There's something strange about that rice.".....When I came back to the kitchen to stir my soup, I leaned over the pot of "rice" and smelled the strangest thing, something like......bread???????  Oh yes, I was boiling WHEAT!!!!! 

Sometimes I amaze myself with my own stupidity!  OK, now that I've confessed my foolishness in the kitchen... What do you do with "boiled wheat"???  I was tempted to toss it into the soup pot anyway, but decided against it .  Mine sat out all day so it was tossed in the garbage, but could it have been breakfast food, tossed in a casserole, or was it better suited for the compost bin?????

Well, now I'm hungry thinking about soup, rice, and WHEAT...I'm going to go find something to EAT !
