7th Carnival of Homesteading

Posted in Random Ramblings

Welcome to the 7th Carnival of Homesteading!

We had some wonderful submissions this week, and I’m so glad to see lots of people participating.

I hope more of you will join in the following weeks.  Enjoy your visit with these great bloggers, and be sure to leave a comment letting them know you were there.

First in our carnival this week, we’ll visit the Garden with Jill Novak of Through the Windowpane, as she shares her wisdom in raising beans and children in As Plants Grown Up .   Gorgeous photos, too!

Next, we go to the Kitchen, and oh what yummy things you’ll find there!

If your garden is overflowing with Zucchini, Ella at How Great Is His Faithfulness has a solution with Zucchini Pie, yes I said Zucchini Pie !

For even more delicious ways to use those prolific green veggies, Chas at My Cup Runneth Over shares recipes for Zucchini Bread and Cookies with us.

Also from My Cup Runneth Over, Shaker Pickles.  Chas says, “This is a recipe that my family has been making for as long as I can remember!  They are a sweet pickle that is wonderful with a big bowl of pinto beans or chopped up and put into your chicken salad…..Sooo yummy, after these you will NOT be able to go back to store bought sweet pickles.”  I’m definitely going to try this one!

For the sweet tooth, Source of Inspiration has the recipe for  Sour Cream Pound Cake and Strawberries for us, which she has perfected using fresh ground wheat and millet.  Delicious and Healthy, what more could you ask for?

Prairiemom has a Recipe from an Old-Time Homesteader for us from the book she’s been reading Montana Homesteaders-Reflections and Recipes.

If you are getting ready to preserve the harvest from your garden, be sure to visit Gerald at the Great Outdoors for Tips on Canning Vegetables.

Amy at SimpleFolk would like your input about the rising cost of groceries in Attention Shoppers: Prepare for an Increase.  I’m looking forward to your responses to this one, as well.

Now we'll visit the Medicine Cabinet to learn about the uses for Tea Tree Oil from Keeper of the Home.

Next we visit the Dining Room for some good ol’ reminiscing and visiting, and a video or two.  Gaelic Acres shares with us some wonderful memories of Grandma and a homestead legacy in Why I “Homestead”.  I loved this story.

Jocelyn Dixon shares a laugh with us at  Amusing Reflections Of A CountryGirl.  Watch her videos at A Day In The Life Of A Milk Maid to see her and a stubborn ol’ goat in action!  Hmmm…..that made me really think about whether I want to try the dairy goat thing or not!

More giggles….and a shudder or two from the Dixon family, as Jacque tells of her adventure in New Shirts and Wh-a-a-a-t? at Seeking Rest on the Homestead.  I hope I don’t find any of those creatures in my own Mt. Washmore today!

Last but certainly not least in this round of Carnival of Homesteading we have some beautiful homestead photos from My Learning Experience.

Well, that’s it for this week.   I hope you enjoy visiting these blogs as much as I did, and I encourage you to send in your own entry next week.  Eric Novak of The Voice of Experience will be hosting the next Carnival!!

Blessings,

Catherine

p.s. If you sent in an entry that didn’t get put in this week’s Carnival, please resubmit it for next week.  I “know” I had another submission that I can’t seem to find……oh the things I manage to lose these days!
