More Ramblings

I survived evening 1 of VBS!  Thanks for the prayers, Cindy .  My ankle is just a tiny bit sore, but nothing like I envisioned....you know, poor pitiful me hobbling along trying to keep track of 25 first and second graders .  I did manage to weasel my way out of the blindfold obstacle course thank goodness!

I did manage another injury prior to VBS, though.  I reached into the cabinet to pull out a glass bowl.....instead grabbed a stack of 3, which I dropped.  I somehow managed to slice my finger on the one that broke .  It was bleeding like crazy, so I put a bandaid on tightly until my dh got home.  I made him look at it - I was afraid of what I might see.... He's a much better nurse than I am;  so he cleaned, bandaged (with 3 bandaids mind you) my injury and other than asking how I managed to do that, kept his "thoughts" to himself

I picked 2 tomatoes yesterday!  I snatched them off the vine just as soon as they turned the slightest shade of red.  The Mockingbirds missed out this time!  And there are tiny cucumbers, peppers, green beans, and the squash are just about ready to bloom.  My garden may not be a total failure after all!

The neighbors have been canning peaches and last week they let the girls and I come over and "help".  I mostly tried to stay out of the way, but they put Sarah right to work, and explained everything to us as they went along.  Lots of work, I must say; but I've tasted her peach cobbler and it is heavenly.  We ate most of the peaches they gave us fresh, though I did manage one batch of Peach Freezer Jam.  It is OK......very, very sweet; and not something I'll probably do again.

On Saturday we picked wild plums.  After picking them, the girls weighed them.....almost 30 pounds!  Now I have all these plums to do something with.  I guess I'll attempt to make Plum preserves or jelly.

We have a little cottontail bunny and it's mother living under our back porch .  We've seen them both out in the backyard, and watched them scoot under the porch as soon as they noticed us.   I haven't noticed them nibbling any of my plants thus far.  Of course, the lettuce and other leafy things are all gone by now.

OK, back to work for me, I have some weeding to do, a lesson to plan, and food to cook................I'd rather take a nap.
