Gardeny Ramblings.....

Well, it seems I've lost my other post....; so I'll try again.....

It's been raining, raining, raining here; so I still have no garden .  Well, no "in the ground" garden, I have quite a collection of containers collecting on the back porch.

The dill and parsley have finally sprouted and are coming along nicely.   The chives that survived the year in the apartment have nice thick stems and are a lovely shade of green.  I think they can be divided into 3 or 4 smaller pots soon.  The Snowflake Rose Geranium is growing like crazy and it's time to take some cuttings from it.  I think that may be a project for this weekend.  I also planted seeds for basil and chamomile.  Hopefully, they will be sprouting soon, too.

The Spearmint, Applemint, and Peppermint all growing in containers on the front porch are doing well, also.  The Lemon Balm seems to be enjoying it's home there, as well.  The Bay tree is getting new leaves, but it is certainly a slow grower; perhaps it's because I'm continually picking it's leaves.

I purchased 2 tomato plants for container growing last weekend.  One Patio tomato, and one called Husky Red.  I also have 3 tiny seedlings of Brandywine, which I started from seed.  Those may not do so well in my area, but I'm going to give it a try anyway.

The radishes are just about ready to harvest, and there are a few beets coming along, too.  The lettuce is doing beautifully, and we've already snipped some for salads a few times.  The peas.....well, they're not growing very quickly, and I'm afraid it's going to get too hot for them if they don't hurry up and grow.  I think I may try those again in the fall.

This weekend I plan to purchase a few pepper plants to go into containers.  If I can find seedlings of bush variety squash, I may get some of those and even a few cucumbers to plant by the fence.

At the rate I'm going, I may not even "need" a real garden this season .   What am I thinking?  Where will I put the okra!!!!! Oh, and the birdhouse gourds, and runner beans, eggplant, strawberries, corn......I definitely need a garden!
