Rainy Day Ramblings...

It's been raining off and on for 3 days.  The rain is a much needed blessing here- it's been a very dry winter.

But, it's also "Spring Break", and my girls are having a bit of trouble staying occupied.  Now, I've offered to help them - I have plenty of work they could do !  They're not too interested in that, though .  It does encourage them to be a bit more creative in finding things to do!

The rain has put a stop to my gardening, too .  But it will certainly help those freshly planted herbs to get a good start.

I guess I'm feeling a bit like my girls today.....nothing I want to do.  Laundry is in there just waiting, of course.  I'm sure there are a few other tasks that I could do......

Instead I'm reading and learning some interesting things here.  Raymond posted some very interesting and disturbing info. on the paper industry; which got me to thinking (scary I know).....

How can my family reduce the amount of paper we use???  I applaud those who are doing the "toilet wipe" thing- it just wouldn't fly here for more than one reason.  But, we do use lots of paper plates, napkins and paper towels.  Those should be simple enough to at least drastically reduce, if not eliminate altogether.

So, if we go to cloth napkins instead of paper..... what is the most economical way to buy or make these?  Sewing is not one of my favorite activities, though I can  use a sewing machine.  I've seen bandannas at Hobby Lobby for .79 or so.... that might not be too expensive.

Anyone have a how-to for making napkins???

Pondering on ditching the paper plates led me to thinking about washing dishes......I'm wondering if there is a good recipe for making dish soap?  Soapmakers, any of you make dish soap, too???

OK, enough rambling from me  for now.  I'm going to make a cup of tea and find a sweater...it's cool here today.  Texas, gotta love it!

I'll be looking for some posts on making napkins and dish soap!!!

I've purchased pretty much all of our cloth napkins very inexpensively at yard sales so give that route a try..
