Kitchen Adventure......

flop!  You know, I call my "cooking experiments" Kitchen Adventures

for a reason. For example, today's didn't turn out so good.  Sometimes I really do amaze myself- by how silly I can be!

I tried a new recipe called Scotch Teas.  Sounded like an easy tea-time snack, and I even had all the ingredients on hand.  Grocery day is tomorrow and the pantry and fridge are getting just a little bare.  Not to mention that for some reason these little girly girls are eating like a football team!  Must be the weather......cold, soggy, drippy, foggy, yuck.  Come on SPRING!!! I'm ready to plant my garden!

Back to my ummmm....adventure.

Let me just begin by giving you the ingredient list:

1/2 cup butter (I used part coconut oil because I didn't have enough butter)

1 cup brown sugar (I use cane juice crystals)
2 cups oatmeal

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking powder

You ladies who make granola check out those first 5 ingredients....not that I paid a bit of attention while I was mixing and stirring.....

Well, after mixing, pressing into the pan and baking for 20 minutes, I have what?????

Very, very sweet, very buttery GRANOLA!!!

I'm just guessing that they meant cooked oatmeal, perhaps?!?!

Sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself.  I've made granola tons of times and should have realized that a little baking powder wasn't going to make that much of a difference.  They are sort of  extremely crumbly granola squares, I guess.  Boy are they sweet, too.  I'm thinking about pouring some buttermilk on the whole mess, mixing it up and sticking it back in the oven.....probably really be a mess then.  I guess I could use it for topping yogurt or canned fruit, maybe something- definitely not for tea-time snacking today.

See why I call them Kitchen Adventures???

You take a chance when you try a new recipe, but it`s always fun. I think we have all made our share of fear-factor food! Just make notes in your cookbook so you will not do that again. My books are loaded with little notations when I try something new.
